The discussion focuses on 5.1.6 where Pierre diagrams the Structure of the One. It overflows and becomes intelligible. The metaphysical mystery is when it returns it recognizes and sees, becomes act of seeing it’s proper object, it is an intellectual seeing and so it’s intelligence and Being. The questions discussed in this section are: How does Intelligence see? What does it see? And How does it come into existence and arise from The One so as to be able to see? What is begotten by the one is said to be begotten by the One without any motion. The One motionless produces that which turns upon itself, turns about to see it’s origin.While motionless how can it be the cause of all motion of that which is in motion? Put in another way:A Koan: The Buddha nature remains what it is, eternally, yet even a snowflakes melt because of it.Buddhists avoid metaphysics, while Plotinus wants to structure and look for the causes. The How question is a relationship question?The image Plotinus uses How does it produce? The sun without doing itself, what does it do, it radiates.The One is to Intelligence as Sun is to Light. To understand the How Plotinus’ uses the image of Sun is to Light and other such images. What does the sun do without doing, it radiates. Or when something reaches perfection, when it is mature it produces. When something matures reaches a level of perfection then its natural function is producing. But, The One is always perfect thus it is producing everlastingly, but its product is less than itself. That which comes from the most perfect, the one is Intellect to see it and needs it alone. The one however has no need for Intellect. The Order is The One, Intelligence and Soul. Soul is a kind of activity of Intellect just as Intellect is of The One.Discussion went to the connection between sun and light which can be called a union as in the 6th book of Republic. There are many such unions, sight in the eyes, and so one can list levels of that same union all the way to the Good and The One. The same principle is that…Chinese thought, expresses this succinctly. They call it principle of structural similarity. Certain relationships that exist in reality that permeates all such relationships. Relationship between sun and light is the same relationship between father and mother, king and queen, king and country. And you can push all the way up to the One and Intelligence. Relationships are constants but the terms vary. The principle of structural similarity. Discussion on the difference between the Hierarchy of Greek Thought and Christianity where The God father, the Son and the Holy Ghost have no differences or hierarchy, they are One or the Same. Implication it is heretical to consider a One higher than these three as Master Eckart did, naming
