Lol And to think GB seriously thought they could trouble the Aussies before the the test series started. Pretty embarrassing playing by them, can't even do the basics right. And i,m an Englishman. To be fair tho the Aussies had a formidable set of players in that team!

The ‘82 and ‘86 Aussie sides had a significant number of all time greats in them, and the word “great” is often overused, but not in describing those 2 teams / squads.
@Holden3084 жыл бұрын
Taking taps in their own quarter when they are 20 or so points down....what were they thinking? Its no wonder the crowd ended up applauding the Aussie's open play and chanting "what a load of rubbish" about the Lions.

Bamford didn't have a clue on team selections. Its little wonder we came up short against the Aussies. Too many good players not selected. Why no Andy Gregory, David Hulme or Neil Holding at scrum half? Bizarre not picking Des Drummond either or players like Paul Dixon or David Stephenson. Were they all injured or just a stupid team selection?
@stevocharlie18214 жыл бұрын
They all hid so they didnt get picked and avoided playing in this embarrasenent of a team LOL

I think Drummond was in dispute with is club at the time so was ineligible to play.Gregory was a no brainer better than any scum halve we had at the time. As a Fax fan i'd definitely put Dixon in there, strong as an Ox. I still doubt we,d have won tho the Aussies were on another level at that time.

It is clear that GB had learnt nothing from the First Test. Australia had been much quicker to adapt to the six-tackle rule since it was introduced in the early 70s. At the time of this series, everyone was talking about inferior fitness, but it's easy to see now that the problem was that GB was tactically years behind. They consistently tried to pass the ball along the line early in the tackle count and consequently rarely got over the advantage line. It also meant they were more susceptible to passes going to ground which gave Aust. good field position. They were also taking tap penalties in their own 20 metre area instead of kicking for touch!
