I am a Spurs fan mate, the 80s seemed amazing eh we won a couple you won some the Reds won some... great finals. I miss the days when it was ALL Day build up... the buses arrive, players on pitch ... it is tragic teams want 4th now and it is all chewing gum n big headphones as they get off the bus.

No one would have known at the time... but Des Lynams comment at the end, mentioning that Aberdeen had won the cup in Scotland was in fact a precursor of what was to come in English football... as it was Alex Ferguson’s last title north of the border before joining United! As Liverpool fan, these are amazing memories... so good to be back on top again! YNWA

Interviewer said "you learned that in the jungle" to Bruce Grobbelaar....imagine saying that now. Honest and simple people doing what they loved, players and pundits.
@ronb57142 жыл бұрын
Grobelaar has repeatedly said that his experience of actual combat, literally in the jungle, shaped his entire outlook on life and on football, often in practical ways. It would not carry half as much meaning if an interviewer put it to somebody who grew up in a country which happened to have some jungle areas. So your statement about how things have changed doesn’t really work. Sorry!

The first goal was one I will not easily forget - what football should be all about. Play the difficult ball up to a player who is tightly marked and develop a move from there. The final penetrating pass into the penalty area goes into feet and players make diagonal runs off the ball to drag defenders away and open up the defence - magic. It was a credit to Liverpool that they could do that in the hurly burly of the game in those days.

@2.43 I don't know why they're making a big deal of Grobbelaars save, Graeme Sharps header looks to me like it was going over and he didn't need to save it !

I was in line with the goal and though it was coming down, I agree, it would have hit the bar at best. I'm an Evertonian btw.
@TheGiantKillers6 жыл бұрын
It needs to be viewed in the context of the whole game to get how big that save was, even though the header probably wasn't going in. Hansen has just made a last ditch challenge to keep Lineker from being in on goal, Sheedy has just missed a sitter and Liverpool are struggling to get the ball over the half way line. They're reaching complete panic stations in defence and then Grobbelaar makes an inspirational save. It's one of those fine margins where you just feel that if the ball had cracked off the bar instead it would have spurred Everton on when instead the save galvanised a struggling Liverpool side.
@Prodigy_Fan4 жыл бұрын
@@TheGiantKillers It was 1-1 when Grobbelaar made that save, Rush had just equalized. Had we regained the lead shortly after with Sharp's header I believe Liverpool, who were garbage until we gifted them a their first goal, wouldn't have got back into the game.
@TheGiantKillers4 жыл бұрын
@@Prodigy_Fan Got to agree with that. It seems crazy to think, in light of the result that the first twenty minutes of the second half were some of the most one-sided in a post-war cup final. Everton were 1-0 up and really should have put the game beyond Liverpool's reach. Liverpool were inexplicably dreadful after half time. As you state, they were gifted an equaliser and didn't put a decent bit of cohesive play together until a very good second goal. However, it's the mark of a truly great side when they play so badly for a long period, hang in there and grind out a result.
@Prodigy_Fan4 жыл бұрын
@@TheGiantKillers You're spot on mate. I watched the whole game for the first time since the day itself recently and had forgot about just how much we absolutely battered them at the start of the second half and really should've killed the game well before their equalizer. Gary Stevens has took plenty of stick for THAT lazy pass, but Mountfield and Ratcliffe didn't cover themselves in glory either when they got that hugely against the run of play leveler.
