Yes the start of a new series looking at the Ford range in March 1986 - In this episode we introduce the brochure and range and look in depth at the baby of the range the Ford Fiesta Mk2

I remember a school teacher buying a brand new fiesta 950 pop in beige took delivery of it on a Monday morning Feb 1986. On his way to work" I vividly remember it parked in the carpark and being taken for a ride in it. Also I remember later in 1986 another teacher buying a new fiesta 1:1 holiday" special edition in dark red .

Back in 1999 i had a Fiesta 1.6D popular plus and it looked exactly like this one does here. It had the fitted radio too. To be honest 0-30mph it was fine and kept up with traffic easily. It was over 45mph it ran out of speed and accelerated slower. Around town it was fine and i drove it to London to be on Westminster bridge for the new years eve of the millennium so i had it in 2 centuries lol. I traded it in for a Sierra Xr4x4 which was a very different car. Very nice video and i like your comments too.

Takes me back we had a 1987 950L. Couldnt decide between that and the special edition 1.1 dash based on the popular plus but went with the L. I always remember the 1.4 SI also based on the popular plus

Had the Popular Plus as my first company car. The 950. Revved the guts out of it but still didn’t go anywhere. Still loved it though

Loved my '86 XR2. Nightmare to parallel park though with very heavy steering at very low speeds...

My mothers car! A white 1987 Fiesta 1.1 L between 87 and 96. A great little car with good handling. I know since I drove it a lot back in the days when I was studying. Borrowed it on the weekends. I don't think she would have allowed it if she knew how I was driving.... 😅 Putting the handling to the test.

March 1986 would mark the final development of the Sierra mk1. The 1986 comparison with the 1982 Sierra you featured recently, would be very interesting. By 1986, the mk1 Sierra's updates were subtle, but surprisingly many.

nice too see this ford fiesta mk2, this fiesta popular model is the best model from ford motor company that time, in the uk now how many this model still on the uk now

Back in the 80’s at Ford main dealership I do remember when PDI new cars having a list of extras to add to the customer car ie door mirrors, decal kits. Some were factory fitted ie automatic transmission and paint…….luv the channel keep it up😊

I prefer the slotted Sierra grille as well. If I remember correctly, in 1986 you could still buy an L or GL with the slotted grille, but sadly it had to be a 2.3 Diesel engine only. Or just buy the Sierra 1.3 or 1.6 Base Saloon.

I had both and I think the Mk2 Fiesta was more than just a facelift. Not many Mk1 parts would fit the Mk2 and vice versa. The Mk2 also got those 1.4 and 1.6 engines and 5 speed gearboxes. Initially my Mk2 was a Popular Plus but the seats were so unsupportive that it made the car feel unsafe on bends. I fitted XR2 seats plus a lot of other upgrades.

I have great memories of the mk2 Fiesta. My grandmother's final car was a mk2 Fiesta 1.1 Ghia 4-speed, in Nimbus Grey, C23VLJ, bought new in 1985, and kept it until she gave up driving in 1993. I thought it had a really nice interior, and was actually much quieter than the Base 1.1 mk3 Escort I had at the same time.

I wouldn't have said 'no' to the Rosso Red Escort GL in the showroom on the front cover, if it was a 1.6 CVH. Most RS Turbo fans refer to these new Escorts and Orions as 'Series 2'.

Ps.. I also remember the following a uncle buying a new ford Orion Biscayne in blue. There seemed to be lots of people buying new fords at that time I remember several neighbours down our street having new fords as well

My favourite would be an XR2 in red. Not sure what the point of the 950 cc engine if it offered the same economy figures as the 1.1. 🙄

We didn't get the Fiesta in Australia. A few years after the date of this brochure, Ford Australia sold a five door hatchback version of the Mazda 121, produced by Kia in South Korea, and called the Festiva. It had a 1.3 litre four cylinder engine and front wheel drive and a five speed manual transmission, if I remember correctly. I've seen a few KZbin videos from the UK about the XR2 and XR3 versions of the Fiesta. The hot hatch was very popular in the eighties, eh?

The hot hatch craze was very popular until the insurance companies caught on to the fact of the increased number of crashes - insurance premiums went up astronomically and killed the craze. After that it was more warm hatches and a more toned down look.

This was interesting one as I've got a brochure of this gen Ford Fiesta from 1983. It shows Fiesta S, L and Ghia trim levels. Additionally digged up Finnish car magazine from 1984, which has Fiesta 1,1 L test drive report. Strangely the test drive Fiesta has the S- trim level headrests and different rims than in the brochure. I think the most basic S -model here is similar spec as Popular Plus in UK as head rests were included. At the time also headlight washers were mandatory, so Finnish Fiestas have washer fluid injectors for head lights, no headdlight wipers though. My dad did test drive this generation Fiesta, I think in fall of 1983 as he was looking for replacement to our old '71 Opel Kadett B. This gen Fiesta is actually the first brand new car I ever was riding in, it felt sooo fancy as a kid :) I don't remember what trim level it was, probably L. I remember it was metallic silver colour.

Always love the fact that Finnish market cars added wipers or at least washers on headlights to cars you would not expect to have them.

Learnt to drive in a 1986 Fiesta 1.6 diesel (a Popular Plus, I think). Absolutely hateful car; plasticky, clattery and sluggish, I'm amazed it didn't put me off learning to drive!! Oh, and I prefer the slatted grill of the cheaper Sierras too 👍

I never really liked these Mk2 Fiestas back in the day but they have grown on me over time. The rather muted blue colour of the Popular in this brochure was very popular (ha!), as was the Popular Plus trim. I had a rather eccentric tutor at uni who bought a new Fiesta (lowly Popular Plus) every 2 years. Austere interior, even by mid-late '80s standards, and the engine was quite noisy and raucous. Why he didn't go radical by getting a higher spec Fiesta or even an Escort and changing it say every 3/4 years is a mystery.

The Mk2 Ford Fiesta was an improvement over the Mk1 Ford Fiesta, as it had a bit more space for a supermini, but it's a shame they didn't put four doors on the Mk2, as that would've made it even better, it's what I would've done.

Did the basic popular come with passengers door mirror or could you add this as an extra……I’m sure I have a memory of fitting a near side mirror to some mk2’s

The Popular only came with a drivers door mirror - you had to move to the Popular Plus to get one for the passenger side.

The S (which I believe was a 1.4 in Mk2 form) would have come out after this brochure was produced. It was a later trim level.

Had an A reg Ghia. 1.3 CVH, A115 CVK. Great car, lovely interior, 100mph I had out of it but it was rotten and scrapped. Replaced with another Fiesta F reg, 950 popular, 4 speed box. The only car I have ever hated. Utter pile of junk.
