Most people misunderstand that pushrod engines are about torque, not horsepower. Torque will move the vehicle and if you smart about your torque band You will learn how to keep your car in that torque band. Focusing upon torque is how V2 motorcycles get/keep moving while achieving excellent fuel economy. Having 200 ft lbs of torque from 2.5k to 5K Rpm at the rear wheels, early in the RPM range will allow this mustang to seem a lot quicker than the numbers indicate, especially if its tagged to a 3.73 or 4.10 gear. High horsepower is beneficial only in the high rpm range, its the reason many sport bikes don't have launch power. because down low, they only make about 10-12ft/lbs of torque, were a simple 2V 650 will make 25-30 ft/lbs just above idle.

I Have a 83 2bbl carbed 3.8 with a t5 swap, long tubes and a full exhaust h pipe into 2.5 inch tips . Wonder what mine makes . It was a dog until I t5 swapped it and put exhaust on. Still not fast by any means but its alright.

It's only factory rated at 120....flywheel so.....they didn't lie, the dyno did, I had one of these head gasket blowing dime store Buick V6 knock offs.

Sounds like a transit bus lol 😂 but over 200 ft lbs for first run not bad in that light car but the second run for 147hp seems way better

Not really rare. 3.8 v6 was actually quite common. You'll find more of them over the 4 banger between 83-86.

147hp on a 3.8L v6 man these must be disappointing numbers, slap a turbo on it run about 5psi of boost and wake that engine up Jesus Christ

You boost it it'll blow up. It's a reliable fun car. It's not very fast but that's fine.

It’s all about the tune that’s what it comes down to Honda engines are extremely strong from the factory do some research you’ll find out also, the worlds fastest four-cylinder all-wheel-drive car is a Honda that run 6 seconds, now if you think about it for a four-cylinder, that’s pretty damn fast!!!

@fastguy ford 3.8 v6. You slap a turbo or supercharger with 5 psi yeah they'll pop. Unless you do a bunch of supporting mods. The early ford 3.8s were not good engines at all. Just because your honda can handle the boost doesn't meant every engine can.

@@KatarinasGarage hold on for a second any engine i mean literally any engine can handle five psi that’s practically nothing to the connecting rods. As long as you got a good tune, the engine will handle it no problem.

@fastguy well considering this is a cfi 3.8 not really. Like these things blow headgaskets and go threw piston rings.. This one actually had leaky headgaskets about a year ago. And all he did was put some head gasket in a bottle in it and somehow it's fine. No trust me that cfi would be like tf is this and just detonate the engine with 5 psi.
