The late 80's- early 1990 ish I worked on a Subaru Commercial for a Japanese Company starring Rod Stewart and he showed up 2 hrs late in his Lamborghini Countach which he drove right onto the set of the commercial and parked his Countach just beyond the Subaru. The Director got out of his chair and went to greet Rod and basically started describing the shot to him and letting him know that we are all ready to go and that all we need to do is move the Lamborghini out of the shot and we can then start rolling the camera. Rod looked at the Director and said, " The car stays, Mate." The Director chuckled and said, " British Humor gets me every time..." Rod looked at him straight-faced and reiterated " The car stays." The look on the Director's face was spectacular, half realizing that Rod was deadly serious. For a brief moment the Director tried to make sense of the situation by saying, " Ahh, we can't, ahh we definitely can't have a Lamborghini in a Subaru Commercial, nobody would look at the Subaru with that in the shot..." Rod just walked away saying, " Not my problem, Mate." The Cinematographer joined the Director and heard the bad news and that guy went apeshit. We were shooting in Will Roger's State Park near Malibu, CA. overlooking a polo field with an incredible vista, the shot was all dialed in and here in the middle of the shot sat Rod's car. After another failed attempt to get Rod to move his car the Set Dressers got together with the Greensman and created a six foot hedge to block the car and with it half the polo field got obscured. I was a young Sound Person on the show, for me to watch this lunacy unfold was beyond entertaining. The DP was such a sweet guy and to watch how upset he was, was heartbreaking. And that's how we shot the scene. You can find it on KZbin, Rod did a whole series of these Subaru Commercials. There is so much more to this story, spending all day with Rod and having gotten a front-row seat to his entitled Rock-Star Legend temper tantrums was and is unforgettable. What a horse's arse that guy was...

Hi Jay.I absolutely Love your Garage Channel! When I lived in Germany from 1980-88, I was in the USAF but of course being a former US muscle car owner, got bitten by the european engineered autos. I was a USAF Jet Engine Mechanic Initially while in Germany in the USAF, working on the McDonnell Douglas RF-4C Phantom Aircraft. I eventually transitioned out of the USAF and went to work for the Lockheed corporation at Bitburg AB Germany. I was an instructor on the F-15 fighter aircraft, training USAF mechanics. FOr my first year or so I was commuting back and forth to Bitburg from the village we were living in, Kleinsteinhausen. This was my daily drive and it was about 150 Km (Almost 100 miles)each way. I loved this drive. It was mostly Autobahn but my favorite part of the ride as the last leg, when I would get off the Autobahn and drive the backroads to Bitburg. Scenic through the woods on perfectly paved roads. My commuter car was a BMW 323i. I loved that ride! Anyways, one day I was riding to work and I was on the Autobahn cruising at about 160 Km's ( 100 Mph) . I was in the far left lane passing the "slower" traffic when out of nowhere I saw a set of flashing lights in my rear view mirror. Back int eh day on the Autobahn when a driver flashed is lights, it was there way of saying"Move over, I want to pass you!". So I moved over to the cruising lane. As soon as I moved over, the car flashing is headlights passed me. It was a Canary Yellow Countach LP5000 QV! It was cruising at 100 Mph but then started to accelerate because how on it's tail was a Red Countach LP5000 QV ! They were racing! Of course I was blown away! Living in Germany for almost 8 years, you see pretty much all of the hot cars, especially the exotics. But this was a very special day :)

I remember reading the reviews when the Countach was first produced. The technological leap was the tires, the Pirelli P7s, and the car was designed around the tires. The reason the Countach is the most exotic & coolest looking of cars is because of the design. The designer saw how 'bubble like' cars were getting in the 60s & hated it. So he went the complete opposite of bubble & started thinking geometric shapes. He settled on the trapezoid as his artistic inspiration. Next time u REALLY look at a Countach, look at all the trapezoidal designs of the car. Its trapezoidal from the top, side, front & rear. Then look and admire all the smaller trapezoidal details of the car. It was a brilliant concept. Back then artists/designers really had to think & be creative, AND actually draw sketches. Now they use computers & u see all these new autos with all the same "smooth lines." That's b.s. talk for using zero imagination & 100% high tech computer graphic design. All these vehicles today look the same. Even the expensive cars all look the same. Years ago you could tell a Honda from a Toyota & a Mercedes from a Maserati. Not today however.

Love this car.. Simple and direct of what it is: an exotic real man's super sports car. Besides the electronic ignition Jay installed, there is no computer gizmo of any kind, which I hate in today's cars. While other modern super car lovers laugh at this 'outdated caveman's sports car', the joke's on them when their cars gets hacked and you just continue blazing on, having them eat your dust.

The coolest car of all times, If you ask me...always had a picture of this one(And a Vector v2) on my wall as a teen, and I still think this is the way a race car should look. The Lambhorgini's of today are pretty awsome too but they kind of look like this one if you over-inflated it. I like the original angles - it's almost as the first stealth planes. Should have a wing though.

He doesn't have to do this but he does to share with guys like me who wouldn't have a chance to see them presented like this any other way. I just realised I have a Marcello Gandini section in my garage! Complete with an old beat up Citroen BX. No Lamborghinis, though. Not even the farming type. There was a tale of the day when Ferruchio Lamborghini met Enzo Ferrari to complain about the clutch of Ferruchio's Ferrari, and Ferrari dismissed him as being a farmer and knowing nothing about cars. Then Ferruchio told Enzo he would show him how to make real cars, and started the car business along with the tractors and farming machinery. Lovely.

Seth Forbus I feel you, but Lambo has raised their game so much since they produced this one it's cool, but doesn't have that "look" of modern Lambo's, not to mention the technology. But even now it would still be a head turner

bbigrocker1 Walter Payton was a neighbor of mine growing up. He was outside with his kids all the time. The Lambo had personalized plates. I saw him in traffic court with a Ferrari Testarossa. Then saw him in a viper at a gas station and waved hello and he waved back. He past away a few months later. Awesome guy and different times.

Though when Clarkson did a review of this car he considered it like the equivalent of looking at an Elephant xD. The only thing is when parallel parking is u need to do it with half ur body out the car since the visibility out the rear is quite bad.
