23:17 Alan Ashby's two-run home run from the right side won this game for Houston. But he also won an earlier postseason game for the Astros with another two-run homer - it was a walkoff home run in the bottom of the 1st of Game 1 of the 1981 NLDS, and he was batting lefty that time. So I'm wondering if Ashby's the first switch-hitter to win two separate postseason games with home runs, one from the left and one from the right. Maybe Mantle did it, but I only know of left-handed game-winners from him (1952 and 1964 World Series). I'm not sure if he won a World Series game with a home run from the right side, though he did hit at least one WS home run batting right-handed (vs Sandy Koufax). At the very least, Ashby must be the first NL switch-hitter to do this. That's a nice thing to put on his baseball résumé.

Shocking...Joe West blows a call at 45:25. Bachman, for the second game in a row, runs out of the baseline going to first to avoid a tag. West ruled that Scott interfered with him, but Bachman was already out of the baseline trying to avoid the tag again.
@YotesFan19803 жыл бұрын
Everything you just said is incorrect, according to the rules. Joe West got the call right. Backman, in this game and the previous game, was perfectly fine. Rule 5.09: (b) Retiring a Runner Any runner is out when: (1) He runs more than three feet away from his base path to avoid being tagged unless his action is to avoid interference with a fielder fielding a batted ball. A runner’s base path is established when the tag attempt occurs and is a straight line from the runner to the base he is attempting to reach safely. Backman, in both cases, did not veer off a straight line when the tag attempt began.

47:00-The umpires should have told Hal Lanier to pick his spot, arguing that Scott didn’t interfere with Backman. It was blatant. Yet they let Lanier go on and on. After a while you say, sit down and be more intelligent with when you dispute a call, this one is a no-brainer.
