James Spader was born exactly at the right time and was born to play the Antagonist in every Gen X moviE. He embraced three typecast and embodied and perfected every teen-young adult movie made. Could someone imagine him ever play the hero-protagonist role in a movie? No neither would I want to see it or ever imagine it. What a phenomenal actor

Hughes wanted and wrote the ending for Duckie and Andie to be together. The studio forced this ending. This is why he went on to make Some Kind Of Wonderful which is almost the exact same movie but with his ending.

The 80s. When people were real, the world was simpler and a much happier place❤️
@Nicomanism
@Nicomanism 4 жыл бұрын
People were fake then. Only difference was there was no extreme cancel culture, no political correctness and most importantly; no clout . It was a much simpler time as compared to what 20 yr olds are going through pressure of social media, and other stuff. All in all, I'd be happy to experience 80s, 90s heck relive 2000s as a kid .

I grew up in the 80's as a teenager. I loves it. However, it was also a time of escalated military activity and was known as the decade of materialism, cutthroat businesses/financiers/banks and individual excess/greed. Every decade has to t's problems🙄

Have you ever watched Touched By an Angel? Nothing has changed. It dealt with lots of issues. This was more towards the 90s than the 80s. When in the 80s are you talking about exactly?
@rubyfirefly2582
@rubyfirefly2582 2 жыл бұрын
It may seem like that now, but it didn't feel that way then. There was a lot of materialism, cliques and so forth. A lot of teen movie themes were about the kids who were rich and the kids who were poor.

What exactly was the narrative? Poor girl interested in rich guy, rich guy treats poor girl like dirt, poor dude makes poor girl feel better, rich guy apologizes, poor girl dumps poor dude for rich guy? The best part about John Hughes movies were the supporting cast characters. The stories were about as deep as a Disney princess movie.

I think that's the thing. So many people in the comments picking Duckie just shows that there is the right person for everyone. I think it's at this moment that Duckie realises that though Andy truly does care about him and is so grateful for his friendship, she was never going to be in love with him. It really set him free to find someone who could be as blown away by him as he could now be for her. Thankfully we don't all like the same person. Can you imagine how different things might be for the main characters in college or even once they join the work force, where the power dynamics can shift dramatically.

It's so tiresome to hear "She should have chosen Duckie". No, she shouldn't! People make mistakes and she did the right thing to end up with the one she loves, since he proved he loves her, too! Why don't you people end up with someone you don't love and feel no attraction for, but only see him as a brother? Wouldn't that be unfair to him? We don't tell our heart who to fall in love with!! Andie perceives Ducky as a "Merry Andrew" and a buffoon as Jackman's Leopold would say.

Female that think less of Duckies type end up regretting ever not been in relationship with Duckie personality. Many girls like to go for attractive guy and cars... but all that means nothing when aging and materials goes away... Those same female falling for BAD BOYS ending up living miserable life nowhere to go but single mom's. The Duckies of the world grew up and have a solid jobs, taking care the kids, and still bring flowers and chocolates and anniversary to the woman he still loved... Many females out there dating guys on physical attractions will leads nowhere cos 99% of those pretty boys ending up be COUCH POTATO watching espn all day long. Think carefully LADIES when you decide to choose your guy.

Duckie ended up with a girl that saw value in him and the Annie Potts character ended up with a nice guy. The two best characters ended up with the happy endings while Andie settles for Blaine.
