Ollie Woodson might be one of the top 3 vocalists of all time (let alone soul/ r&b). That seems to the the general consensus of these comments. The brother was BAD and so truly under rated as a vocalist. Damn!!!!!

Make no mistake about it, Ollie woodson was every bit as talented as David Ruffin and Dennis Edwards and i dont say that lightly...dynamic soulful singer... i have to keep it real i didnt realize until recently just how bad this brotha really was. i regret sleeping on him for all those years... he was one of the 10 best singers i ever heard.

Ali was a great guy--fun to hang with off-stage, a great singer with dynamic but cool stage presence, a great songwriter, a proud poppa (used to love being seen with his baby daughter in AC) ---that is until the big C entered the picture, which weakened his imune system as he battled throat cancer and then leukemia. Ollie was primed to be THE GREATEST of the Temptations lead singers, because (1) he could take the previous generation's songs (Lady Soul for example, which was covered by quite a few others) and make them his, and (2) he could write hits going forward (such as Treat Her Like A Lady). I pray that the Almight Creator will rid us of the plague of Drugs. R-I-P ALI-WOODSON

As Temps fans many of us like to compare and in my humble opinion, the only detriment to Ali's resume' is that he was "born too late." He is obviously very well known and respected by many but perhaps doesn't get the same recognition as David or Dennis because he sang in a later era for the Temps. Personally, I liked his voice the best out of all the lead tenors/baritones the Temps have had. Such a dynamic singer.

@@GarwinWayneyou’re right. Don’t insult David like that. David wished he could sing any song like Ollie or David. Classic doesn’t mean the best. Out of the three, David would be third. They give David respect because he was the first, but on stage, they would eat David up vocally because Ollie and Dennis can sing fast AND keep their power. David doesn’t have the power to keep up.

It was way back (in 1974 I think) I was stationed at Wright Patterson AFB outside of Dayton Ohio, just back with my Japanese wife after a 3.5 year tour of Japan. Two of my all time favorite groups were playing at the some big concert hall: The Dramatics and the Temptations. I was a big fan of both but The Temps were my Gods. But I loved The Dramatics too. They were my second favorite. My wife, a big Soul and R&B fan loved both but thought the newcomers...The Dramatics were better. Of course we went to that concert and had 2nd row seats right in front of center stage. Perfect! I couldn't wait to see my wife's reaction when see saw The Temptations. The Dramatics came out first and just killed it. This was my first time to see them live (my 2nd to see The Temps. I saw them back in 1965 in Johnstown PA. when the Motown Review was touring the USA). I was so blown away by The Dramatics performance that I was wondering if The Temps could follow that up. My wife was blown away too as she had never seen such talent. The crowd went wild. Then it was time for The Temps. The stage was set up with a long wall of translucent paper. The band started. And The Temps came out through that paper wall just blowing everybody's mind. It didn't even take two minutes...My wife, her mind blown. yelled "My God! The Temptations are even better than The Dramatics. They are fantastic!" I proudly agreed.

I bought this album because this song somewhere in 1984-85 and as soon as I got it I recorded on a blanks cassette 90 minute one. And the other side I put Billy Ocean Caribbean Queen. Yeah I drove around on Hoot owl shift in the squad with this playing. One cold cold night me and my partner were riding deep in the snow listening to Ollie and Billy. And I always thought Ollie was bad to the bone. When he hit those hoo hoo hoooo notes I was hooked. And it seem like those notes were effortlessly coming from his body. It was hypnotic and soulful . And then Melvin would drop those heavy lows in there Otis and Richard and Ron would sing those sweet harmonies.. These were the best times .. and you just had to tune in and listen.. and Ollie just soared through the atmosphere with great ease. You guys rest in peace.. you gave us something beautiful. Thanks goodness someone was there to record it .. LB January 4, 2023 Wednesday night..

Ollie ran into health issues with a 1st diagnosis of throat cancer. Otis never really fired him, but rather Ollie took time out. As he gradually regained health, Ollie started attempting other ventures that didn't require the actual extremely "hard" life of being on the road & not having ready access to his physicians. Otis always welcomed Ollie back whenever he was available. Ollie's voice was like no other. His style & tone gave me chills like none other, other than Jackie Wilson. :-)
