This is awesome lol I just bought one of these. 200,000 miles same year, $500. I just changed my oil with a tire iron last night lol and replaced some battery terminals that were causing issues

Did this make any changes for the car? I have the same 86 cressida and I am chasing down poor acceleration gremlins. Done tps, rotor cap, plug wires, plugs, maf, air fliter,, coolant temp....and now onto , the o2 and cat. I know my exhaust has holes post cat, and I plan to get the entire system replaced ,if needed. Checking timing marks will be on the list to do. After that I am about stuck.

your timing could be off i just got done putting new Cam and crank seals and timing belt on my 86 Cressida because the crank seal went after 200K miles which is very good and was leaking oil into timing area and making it jump time so bad it wouldnt start . To get more umph set the timing to 12 or 13 degreess. I have the toyota big ass repair book and they want you to set it at 10 degrees but also says you can go to 12 or 13 for better acceleration but might lose some top end speed. I know alot about the MX73 been in the family since 91. Also check your idle on the car, cressida's of that model should be idle at 400-600 rpm's if your like at 800rpm it can throw your timming off and make the car sluggish. I hope my advice solves your problem because i know getting some help and tips for this old classic is hard.

You can adjust the timming by losing up the distributor and moving it. That how you adjust your timming with a timming light from 10 degreess before TDC or 12, 13

@@PlutoJ24 I believe my timing is correct. I put a light to it and set it to 10. Could do 11-13 just to make sure. I calibrated the tps to spec as well. I have a very funny feeling that this motor is from a mk2 supra pre 85. I, for the life of me, cannot find where the knock sensor screws in. I looked at pics from my year and mine simply doesnt match up. Looked at cam gear guides on a mk2 supra compared to mine and they match up.

It also idles at 900-1000 no matter what. Once it's at operating temp it will attempt to idle lower than 900, but often stalls out once it gets around 550-600.

Hmm I’m not sure how different the 5MGE motors change from the 82-85mk2 Supra and the 85-88 Cressida. Could very well be that you got a cressida with not it’s original motor only thing I can think of is make sure #1 cylinder is TDC and the cam marks line with the BACK timing cover indents/marks and see if it’s at 0 degrees on the crank. The other thing it could be your ECU or your throttle cable is lose and you got a dead spot in your pedal
