I really enjoy what you had to say about the 80's and about feeling. That was super intelligent.

The E is for Eta. Eta translates to efficiency. The 325E was made to meet fuel efficiency standards as a company for BMW. The car was sold primarily in the US because of limits on engine size in Europe.

I got my brand new 325e when I was a teenager in 1986… so know exactly what you mean about “feeling” and “emotions” - which is why I still have it and drive it today. I love how you talk about how the car makes you feel! Don’t know your age, but I don’t think you were born yet - which is why I love this video even more. So much respect for you for appreciating those simpler times. Indeed they were simpler (and dare I say, more “feel good”) times.

The 325e was slow but for 1987, it was pretty fast. It redlined at 4500 rpm but you could still get up to 50 mph in second gear. This particular one had fewer options. You could get a power sunroof and nicer seats, almost as comfortable as a modern day 3 series. You could also get a 3 spoke steering wheel with the horn in the middle

Redlined at 5k with stock head but if you get a head from a 325i it’ll rev higher

Awesome video! Thanks! Found one of these today in an old air hangar...it was in amazing condition but I am far from an expert in older BMWs. Thanks for the insight! Seems like a very well built 80s era car. Long live the 80s lol. Looks sharp with those wheels I love it.

Picked up a Canadian 87 325e 5spd, it has a Dinnan chip and redline is raised to 6000, it kind of chokes out after 5 but pulling redline sets the next gear in a better position. Great car! It will pull out of a light and gap some cars. Get a lot of smiles from people. Would recommend getting one. Check the trunk for water & the floor panels. Your dash is in perfect shape also!

Awesome vid and awesome E30!!! The 5 green 2 orange and 1 red lights are service interval lights, calculated by your odometer it goes down to let you know when you need to change fluids-sparkplugs and filters.

Since you always do your research... The eta was not a “detuned” six. It has a larger bore, higher displacement, different head designed for the American market. More torque. It also was NOT an economy bmw. Eta was engineering speak for efficiency. And FYI in the 80s you could still get Valium if you didn’t want to feel anything.

My first car was a stock 87 325e; this was around 2005. AC was a pain to maintain. Learned how to drive clutch on it.. It was kind of terrifying. I was voted runner up best car in the year book superlatives. It did fit four teenagers comfortably. I miss it.

Great review. I had a 1984 325e I bought second hand in 1998 when it was 14 years old and it had 171,000 miles on it. It was the same color as the one in your video, was a one owner car and the guy babied it. It looked like new. It was an amazing find. I drove it until it had 250,000 miles and owned it until 2008. It was fantastic. When I sold it it still had the original engine and clutch. I wish I never sold that car. My interior had the nicer sport seats than your tester had. I found the backseat was actually surprisingly roomy for a small car. By the way, in the 80's we weren't connected through social media but nobody felt disconnected.

Does E stand for economy, and is the E model Much slower then the 325i ?
@EastCoastATV
@EastCoastATV 3 жыл бұрын
@@ulrikviddal2593 The E stood for ETA, which basically means efficiency. The 325i was 1 second faster to 60 mph. The e was a very reliable car, much more so than the i. I could get 36 mpg on the highway with it when it was 16 years old and had over 200,000 miles. Here is some more information about this car here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_3_Series_(E30).

BTW, the "e" does not stand for economy. It stands for efficiency. Low RPM stroker. Same torque but less HP. Still a bullet proof engine and so easy to drive.

Would you or anyone know where to get e30 parts? I found a e30 for sale and might buy it it isn’t pretty might need some work just trying to do some research before pulling the trigger
@j.collett2364
@j.collett2364 4 жыл бұрын
I fell for that “might need some work” too. Go for it. E30’s are rewarding cars and not hard to work on. That said of all 80’s euro cars it’s probably the easiest to get parts for. You won’t find much in junk yards but ecstuning, turner motorsport, garagistic, mecatechnic have served me well. Note that there’s also mounds of “how to” online for these cars. Buy it. Jump in with both feet and keep another piece of west German iron oxide on the road. You won’t regret it.
