Track testing my 87’ GN. First passes ever on the car. Second pass it went 9.93@137.0 with a 1.43 60’, leaving on the foot brake.
Tried a hard trans brake launch on the next pass and it wouldn’t stay hooked….

That was a good hit. Also looks like there would be much more in it with a converter change. The rpm drop between 2nd to 3rd doesn't seem to change the rpm much on that pass. If you get that to 1,000 rpm drop the car will et better instead of screaming out the back door. Very promising. Congrats!!

You are absolutely right bro. I have had hell with converters with this thing. This is a PTC 9.5” NLU that’s been restalled once already down to a 15 blade stator. It flashes to about 5900 rpms and it’s never under 6000 rpms at any point at wot. It only drops 280 rpms from the 2-3 shift at 6350 rpms or so. I have a new custom Circle D multi disk lock up sitting on the bench waiting to go in. Building a spare trans for it now. I plan on locking this one at wot in 3rd. I’m hoping it will gain 3-4 mph at least. The PTC measures 14.3% slip in the traps but that’s only because it starts coupling around 130 mph…. It’s 36% slip in the 1/8 and 22% slip at 130 mph. Complete junk.

Thank you! It definitely would have gone quicker with the transbrake launch if it had stayed hooked up…. I’m sure it would have been a 9.80 leaving off the brake.

Thanks. The converter is WAY too loose. Blows through it all the way down. It flashes to 5900 and never drops below that. It’ goes through the traps at 6400+. I have a new Circle D converter here that I hope will tighten it up and get me a few mph gain.

Sure man. It’s a 250” stock 109 block, ported TA SE aluminum heads, 218/218 billet roller, Champion high rise race intake that has been fully ported. 70MM TB. Turbo is a PTE 6766 DBB, RJC front mount IC. 3” RJC down pipe and 2.5” ATR cat back. Trans is a Janis stg 3 with a PTC 9.5” NLU, 15 blade converter that’s WAY too loose. It’s on about 30-31 psi, 19* of timing on e85. That’s about it. Just basic stuff.

@@AJsSpeedShop I the same combo, just different converter and GN1 fully ported aluminum heads. Haven’t been to track yet but pretty much everyone with this combo had the same times.

Yeah it takes a lot of testing and tuning to get them to actually run the numbers. I had tested mine on the street a lot with the Dragy so I knew what it “should” run before I got to the track. What it “should” do and “actually” does is not always the same. Lol

I didn't hear it shift one time?? How is that? You installed CVT? Sounds just like a CVT

It was blowing through the torque converter. You can hear it shift the 2-3 shift but the trans flares (slips) on the shift. It was wasting/losing a lot of power through the converter and trans. Unfortunately PTC can’t seem to get the converter tight enough. I have the trans apart now.

Thanks man! I wish I could have stayed hooked on the trans brake launch. I feel it would have been a high 9.70 or low .80.
