What about using some type of racing fuel cell?
@AJsSpeedShop4 ай бұрын
A fuel cell is always an option….however, depending on your car’s usage, they aren’t real great for street cars. Usually they are less capacity, have to be filled from the trunk, they eat up your trunk space, and you can’t run internal pumps in most of them. For race cars or serious street/strip cars they are a good option but, for a car that gets driven a lot, road tripped, wanting quiet fuel pumps etc, it’s best to stay with a stock style tank.

If you’re planning to cut and weld why not cut around the flange area how ever much you need in the new tank and tack in some sheet metal to raise the height of the bucket area then weld the flange area back in?

That’s basically my plan for the new tank. I’ll basically have to build a new smaller diameter, but taller bucket in the new tank. Gonna fix the old tank first since it is much less work and quicker, then work on building the new tank in my spare time. The old original tank is clean as can be inside, it’s only the outside strap area that had any rust at all.

Beautiful car man! that alternator caught my eye when you were under the hood. What brand is that?

It’s a PowerMaster XS Volt. It has an adjustable regulator so you can increase voltage to what you want it at. It’s a nice piece. It’s worked well so far. Never under 14.4v.

It’s a PowerMaster XS Volt, 200 amp. Works flawlessly.

Does the new tank fill up correctly? Does it run better than the old spectra? Nice ride

Nope. The new tank fills up terribly. I can only fill it about half the pump’s throttle to keep from puking fuel back all over me… even when it’s empty. I just finished a 932 mile road trip, lots of gas stops. Got gas on the bumper about 4 times. I hate the new tank. I’ll be repairing the oem tank ASAP and putting it back in.

That sucks that they did a makeover on it to look good. Been thinking about pulling my stock tank and taking it to get cleaned and redone at a shop to keep the stock tank good

You ain’t lying man. And I searched for a stock tank for over 2 years. The one in the video is immaculate inside, but outside under that strap area it was rotted out big time. I gotta give it to the seller tho, he was an excellent bondo man.

As long as your stock tank is decent inside now, it will stay fine. The key is not letting water/humidity form in the tank. Keep it full of gas on long naps and it’ll be fine. My gas tank in my 71’ is the original born with tank and it still looks like new inside. Just don’t let the gas go bad or the tank sit half empty where moisture can form.
