Great video! However, I wish you would show how to replace the bottom guides as those too break. While replacing the oil pump guide I found the lower guides to be worn and very close to breaking so I removed the front cover and digging in to that. I am completely restoring my 560SL (see my KZbin channel) and have already completed the suspension and now the engine. There are very few videos on the M117 and I appreciate yours. Thanks again.

Ed is a refined person of high moral and cultural values. Ed is not only a mechanic but a top engineer. I was irritated by the behavior of dealers in shows. It seemed as if an illiterate peasant and thief was mastering a nobleman.

Very enjoyable work alon with perfect tool and classic lights. But how you found spare parts for old mercedes its very difficult

Parts availability for this particular generation of SL is still great even to this day. The R107 SL ran from 71 - 89’ with over 300k total units produced, so you can still get parts. Some of the more esoteric fittings are starting to show signs of scarcity (higher prices) and can be tricky but all the major bits are still readily available.

I owe you an apology Ed. I was very critical of you, because I thought you were not replacing the chain with the guides. Good job old man😊

It's a shame that such skill is not rewarded nowadays. Managers hire cheapest staff and professionals are disrespected. So everyone is running around just to find someone they can trust for whatever job... Dark times. But at least some true pros are always busy with orders...

Wheeler Dealers / TopGear - great shows, but when you let the stars go that made the show, they turn out to be terribly annoying
