This was one of the last races that Tim Richmond ever ran. He was diagnosed with aids earlier that year and was unable to continue teaching due to it. He would pass just 2 years later. RIP to a great racer.

Perfect thumbnail pic of the beautiful Dale Earnhardt Wrangler Jeans 1987 Chevy Monte Carlo.

I know its sacrilege, but that was the best looking DE car, imo.

I love putting these races on for the first hour or two I get to work alone at my job in the morning

I forget just how good Kyle Petty was. He was often a too qualifier or finisher! Also, the access to the drivers was great! Tim Richmond couldn't focus on his interview because he was buckling up haha.

I was at that race, and the two things I remember the most about it was Rusty pitting about every other lap to deal with the oil leak, and how loud Earnhardt got booed after winning yet another race (8 out of 16 to that point in '87).

The Greatest Of All Time. But, if he always wrecked people to win, how come he didn't even touch Kulwicki to win this one?

I always heard this was the equivalent of a mugging with what Dale did... Yep, he never touched Alan. Kulwicki simply over drove the corner.

@@JesusTapdancingChristOnaCross That was a classic Earnhardt move. Let the guy go around him on the inside going into the corner just for the one who passed him to overdrive the corner, wash up the track and let Dale go back by on the inside. He perfected that move
