It's the Toyota Supra Turbo and Honda Prelude Si for me!! My first car was an 86 Prelude Si manual in 1996. The clearcoat was peeling and the right side front fender had a little bend in it from the previous owner. It also had that pesky up and down idling issue that fuel injected Hondas were often plagued with in the 80's and 90's. It didn't let me down though! He sold it for $2500. It was like driving a go cart! Fun times! Thank you for the retro reviews! They bring back great automotive memories.

@@nlpnt i recall that. It was an odd decision to make them. Lose seats to gain weight and pay extra? I recall road tests, comparing Honda Si, VW GTI, FX16, etc. the GT always lagged behind. But they were cheaper, great deal
@moparornocar082 жыл бұрын
A friend of mine told me about an Escort GT his family had back in the day, and he also said it was a very solid performer. I think he said they bought it with a blown head gasket, and ended up putting a Mustang GT throttle body on it, larger exhaust, and some other small internal modifications I can't recall at the moment. He said it ended up being more than a match for most 5.0 Mustangs at the time, and turned out to be quite a fun tire-fryer. The head gasket gave out again after a couple of years, and they unfortunately decided not to rebuild it again

There was no 3.8 V-6 in the Grand Am. The Grand Am and other N-cars had instead the 3.0 liter variant of it, under the code LN7. And 1987 was the last year for that engine in a GA. The coming years were a choice of turbo 2.0 SOHC or Quad 4 DOHC, along with the base Tech IV.
@christopherconard28313 жыл бұрын
Good luck trying to get a Prelude Si for $14K back then. In the 80's Honda dealers were notorious for upcharging. Especially for higher editions. It wasn't until they were hit with a pile of lawsuits and realized their brand name was taking a hit that they cracked down on the dealerships. Dealers also began sueing Honda for other reasons. In the end I'm sure a lot of lawyers were well paid.

People were far too skeptical in 1987 to be ordering a grand am with a 4cyl turbo as opposed to the 6 cylinder..even if they were told it's the more powerful engine. The turbo 4 makes 165 HP, 40 MORE than the V6.” That makes no sense lol. And I know it’s really more the torque figure anyway that breaks transmissions, but I can pretty much figure that turbo motor makes a bigger torque number than the V6 also if it’s got 40 HP over it.
