11:06 Derek Schott Was infamous in Florida for that rolaid and he would do it backwards, do a rollback one eighty in a decade position, then rolaid. SO SICK! I'd see him at Florida contest when I be would be competing in 14-15 intermediate he was in expert class probably a year ahead of me. I think he used to ride a Laser before Ozone.

I think more than half of these guys are still riding, and Dennis McCoy, one of the oldest riders even back when this was made, day is still a top pro. I'm still riding and I still suck....

NOOOO WAAAYYYY.....I know that video....I watched it with my friend mike when it was raining....then it stopped and we went out and I learnded Ankle-Death and Ankle-Trigger that day. He was very impressed.....I think I did the wiphlash already that time though. Hang-5 into Elbow-Glide into Forward-Sideglide into Whiplash....that was my signature-combo back then. :)

A neighbor of mine who didn't ride or anything used to come and ask me to play the video for him just for the soundtrack, he was heavily into synth based music of course. I still come in to play the music in the background while I do stuff.

*SPECIAL REQUEST IN MEMORY OF BILLY SWOOP BELOW IN MY COMMENT* . I never seen this video yet however I known about it. I competed against several of these riders back in the day in the expert class (not pro) even against Karl Roth, Rick Molerno (if my spelling is right) and Josh White to name few in the 16 & 17 expert class but there seems person that I can think of that constantly beat Trevor hernandez , Matt Hoffman and half the time Scottie Freeman in flatland and that was Billy Swoop you seemed to miss (former MCS team captain before him and Kevin went to GT when Martin , Josh white and Brian scura was in the area. It destroyed the MCS team actually as Marlow and I were the only 2 remaining on MCS. MCS, GT, Jolly Rancher and Donnie Cook from profile were the only major sponserships back then in my area besides local bike teams. I heard Billy was killed during Military service when I was going through the forestry academy but I am not sure. Do you have any videos of him by any chance? I believe his baby brother Steve was a narrator later for the x games but I never followed Steve's career in freestyle except when he first started expert class locally but being that he narrated, I assume he followed in Billy's footsteps. The swoop family and the cook family really did wonders for the freestyle communities with hosting the events and I thank them. The swoop family I was very close with enjoying family get togethers and when Martin Apprijo was in town staying weeks at a time with the swoop family, it made it just that more enjoyable. If you know Martin yourself, and care to ask him for giggles, you can ask him about the time we were pulled over by the plantation police during practice when he was 23 or 24 (I think 23) Billy was 15, I was 17 and there was a underage curfew going on in Plantation Florida and Billy Swoops mother had to bring the van to rescue us from the police department all because the cops thought Martin was a teenager and did not believe him since he had no I.d. on him. To say the least, Martin was always reminded of that for several years after. But on a serious note in respect for Billy Swoops Military service being in the top 2 flatland riders in the USA in his division that him and Scottie constantly changed places, I would love to see that if you have any videos in his memory. I am positive that Steve & Karen may have videos of Billy that you might be able to get if not. Martin may have some with Josh White for after Billy went to GT. I do not even know how to reach Martin but I know he's still around, would you have a email for him? I hope the leads in the contact names I provided are useful to you in the request. From my understanding, I believe with what Marlow said later, it was a road side bomb. Marlow joined the 6 flags amusement parks freestyle team prior to 6 flags closing their team in the ft. Lauderdale area after he left MCS then he and I went our seperate ways to college where we lost contact (there was no social media or cell phones then to keep in contact). Donnie Cook, left profile taking a flatland & vert position with a college scholarship at the San Diego Sea World amusement park but Donnie Cooks family may have videos of Billy as well since the Swoop and Cook family were close nit back then. Donnie's family has been long term residents in St. Petersburg Florida as the swoop family has in Plantation Florida. I believe Martin is still in Huntington Beach California. I am not sure where Josh White is today and last I heard was in Arizona if this helps any. I do not know if Brian Scura has any videos of Billy but he may. I am not even sure where Brian lives now. To say the least, I miss the swoops and I really miss Billy a lot so that is why I am making this request. But you may have Billy's videos as well. It would be so nice if you put up a memorial video for him.

There is riders still today that do old school riding but they are far and in between. It was not really untill 1987 to 1988 it seemed before the old school riding tricks became technical such as many in this video. Prior to this, flatland did not take any skill it seemed. But yes, the Miami hopper, boomerang, decades, cherry picker, pedal pickers and so on I recall clear as day. Constantly something new seemed to be developed near daily since then. Now it's so advanced with the no brake tricks that it is mind-blowing to see the pros today. Then for years, flatland died out but it's making a major come back. But considering back then, the top rated pros made 500 to 800 for a afa masters event in comparison to $50 thousand today, of course riders are coming out of the woodwork sort of speak. I myself utilized flatland back then for endurance and balance training for my primary sport but I found freestyle to be fun so I had it as my secondary sport anyhow.

the toboggan is basically the Miami Hopper position in mid-air, it's been going on as a move on dirt/park since the late 80's, I remember a florida local called Jeff Tabacchi invented it, saw it featured in BMXA say august 87
