I wish GM would have put the 6 speed manual in these 350 cars in 1989 when they did the Corvette or at least a year later. Would have made a world of difference!! Imagine a 1LE IROC 5.7 with a 6 speed!!! The tell tale sign of the treatment of an 80's car is the interior. If the interior is trash, it's been rode hard lol. Love these cars as I graduated high school in 1988. Black and gold IROC for the win!

Oh so you know why they didn't put a manual transmission in the car but you break the rear self-latching system by slamming the hatch down. I bought this exact model with the T tops, same color and engine package for $21,750 in 1988.
@jeremyb5740
@jeremyb5740 7 жыл бұрын
Haha right...the only time you can slam then and they don't hurt it if is the motor gets caught in the down position...this mainly comes from very weak struts and as the motor pops up when you hit the rear hatch latch switch the weight of the hatch triggers the switch BUT does not pull the hatch down all the day! I learned this one time early on....but when you slamming it while not good, your not slamming the motor down anywhere...just the hatch until it hits the frame...

She rolled it a few years later from being drunk. :( No one got hurt and the car had 4 people in it at the time of the wreck. She never drove drunk again. Glad she learned her lesson without killing someone. Wonder if this car is still available. Video is almost 2 years old, I highly doubt it. I would love to own it.

Rabbi Schlomo No they are not And Dont You call me dummy. Why would GM put a truck tranny in a performance car to begin with, to save on build cost. The 700R4 that came in my 92 Camaro after one year of owbership failed at the third gear clutch pack. GM covered the cost of the rebuild, but after doing extensive research I ended up ordering a warrantied 4L60 and having my local dealership install it so it too was covered under warranty. The upsetting thibg is when I bought the Camaro new, there was not any option listed or special listing to buy the car with the 4L60 trans in the first place. Everyone conbected with racing GM cars knew then rhat the 4L60 and 4L80 transys are far superior to the off the shelf 700R4. This is Why they came installed in the then model corvettes standard NOT as an option.

@danielwatne5535
@danielwatne5535 4 жыл бұрын
@DR PHIL I'm right there with you,. there was something about 5spd mustangs and their ability to accelerate that usually beat cars with more power. But once they hit higher speeds they fell flat. I own a 1995 Taurus SHO with a 5 SPD manual trans and I have raced 5.0 liter mustangs with manual transmissions.II don't have a chance with these cars until about 90 mph and beyond because V8 mustangs have so much more torque but I have more wheel horse power than a stock mustang and I pull on them all the way to top speed.140-145 mph.Ive raced only 5.0 tpi Camaros and the Sho will beat them to 60 and beyond the whole run.either way 5.7 Camaros will win in the end once speeds are high over a 87-93 mustang.

As much as he portrays to know about that car yet he does not know it's a power pull down until after he slams the trunk! Most people in the car scene, especially at that age, know which cars have the power pull down such as the Cadillac's, Camaro and Town Cars...shame shame...

not original paint on the bumper cover quite a few shades off. and the black around the headlights is supposed to be flat black not shiny black. i would need to see the vin before i believed it was a 350 car. gm usually turned the valve cover around to where the oil fill cap was in the front on a 350 car. 305 had in the back like you see on this car. and it is pretty easy to get vin stickers

To be honest...its really getting to the point that the RPO code sticker NEED to be included when buying a third gen Pontiac and IROC-Z...there ARE so many instances where either the dealership HAS no idea what they have and or vice versa and want too much. Everyone knows that GM buried there special hidden performance packages in RPO codes and delete options

@ladin425 10 жыл бұрын
front clip? do you mean bumper cover? Most likely has because I'm almost positive the original paint would have pealed off the composite bumper as these cars were prone to do. You did hear him say "most original" paint. Generally, points aren't docked for a bumper repaint and you can't expect a perfect match as they for sure didn't match from the factory. I say it's a very nice car as I'm sure a rarity in this condition.

I'm a g-body guy so it was the Grand National for me. The Camaro Z28 was a slow car when it came to the GN. I would smoke cameros, mustang and my favorite the vett. It's sad that a V6 would out power, out torque and out run anything in it's path. No car in that time period would match the GNs when it came to 0-60 under 5 seconds it was faster than a Porsche. So when this idiot states that this car was fast, he doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. Also slamming the hatch tells me he doesn't know shit about a camero. So the all black Darth Vader car was the cool in 1987 and the fastest production car in 1987 and the GNX was the Grand Daddy of all Buicks GNs. Now in 2017 you can't find a GNX under 90k, and they only built 547 of them. Also the t5 manual trans could hold up to the basically lt1 engine or 5.7 tpi. Also this car was a turtle to the GNX. IROC was 6.6 0-60 and GNX was 4.7 0-60 time. Also mr no nothing sale guy, back then you couldn’t put a manual t5 behind a turbo engine because you would loose your boost.
@danielfair4675
@danielfair4675 4 жыл бұрын
Dude, you're on crack! The GN was doing 0-60 in 6.07 & the GNX @ 5.4. They were both speed limited to 124 mph top end, and you weren't getting around that. The IROC & Mustang were both running well over 140 mph (144-145 to be exact). You better do a bit more research before posting stuff.

They actually made 50, in 1986 with the 5.7 BUT ..... they were test mules and never offered nor sold to the public. Thats why the 5.7 was not offered until mid-year in 1987. GM was worried about reliability. The Vette only had a 4-speed manual, where as the Camaro had a 5-speed. The torque scared GM from putting it in with the 5.7 GM Employee 😁

Second owner of a 1988 iroc z28 Camaro. 5.7 liter 7,330 org miles. Gold rims. No rust. Org owner ordered the car. Think it makes a difference in value because I am the second owner? Has set for the last 7 years. The only thing, not org is the hood. Still has the spare tire with air can lol.

The reason why they didn't match up the manual trans. with the 350 is............ because the body was to week to support a manual trans. with the 350. He said they didn't have a manual trans.... BS didn't they have a 5 speed that matched up with the Corvette??? Duh Yes they did..... and those cars are lead sleds.... they are heavy cars.

Dude my 77 Thunderbird has all the goodies this thing does. The only downside is no motorized latch, and no fuel injection. This guy is so excited about power windows, locks, and seats when most cars a decade before the Iroc had it.

No, they didn't. The C4 corvette either had a 4+3 or a ZF6 6 speed and the cars are not heavy. The thirdgen was about 500 to 800 lbs lighter than the current 5th gen depending on options. The C4 weighs about the same as the C7. There are two reasons why the T5 did not appear in the on the L98 and first is they didn't want to risk the warranty claims for broken T5s. The L98 at its finest made 345 lb ft of torque. The second reason is decel emissions which are harder to correct for EPA cert.

To shut the hatch, let it all the way down and press down on it and not that hard. If it's motorized you should hear a click and the motor will pull it shut. Slamming the hatch like you would the hood, not good. You'll damage something.

And yea the 5 speed couldnt handle the torque, they shoulda lowered the torque and upped the horsepower
@gmg921
@gmg921 6 жыл бұрын
the torque difference between the 305 and 250 was only 20ft-lbs. The real reason that 5 speeds werent put in 350 was because the camaro then would compete with the corvettes and chevy didnt want that.

@@gmg921 the '87 5.7 IROC was actually faster 0-60 & in the 1/4 mile than the Vette. The Vette would run over 150mph top end, the IROC was done at 144-145.
