Thank you all so much for your comments and enthusiasm. As the owner of this car, I consider it my responsibility to share it with the world and not keep it hidden away. Thanks to Thomas, James, Greg (behind the scenes), and all of you watching for helping to keep the passion for these cars alive and making sure younger generations get exposed to them, too. Safe driving, everyone. See you out on the road! 🚗

There was this weird boutique exotic car dealership tucked off in an industrial park in Tulsa, OK. They somehow got their hands on an all-original Tucker with only ~50 miles on it. Blew my mind. But I intentionally drove by over and over again while they had a red Testarossa that sold for over $330,000 in 1990.

You guys are hilarious. This was a few years ago. These cars are just cars. People respray, build, modify, come on we all know this. The car was not stock, and the dark green looked great with the wheels he put on it. Not every car needs to be left stock and barely driven

It's def hated by some, but for me that's beauty in its own way and one of the cars that fueled my passion for cars. 512TR is just a facelifted Testarossa. The name was updated to match other F cars: 512 TR (= 5 litre 12 cylinders TestaRossa). Both share the very same Ferrari model designation - Type F110 (Testarossa - F110AB/E, 512TR - F110HB) and both have Testarossa on the head covers. 512TR has just a few nice upgrades - 18 wheels, painted lowers, new front bumber, the engine sits a bit lower thanks to redesigned lower frame, the Bosch K-Jet injection system is gone replaced by a more modern Bosch Motronic 2.7, TR512 has different seats and steering wheel inside etc. But it is still a Testarossa! PS. Testarossa owner and aficionado here.

That doesn't sound like just a facelifted Testarossa. That's a long list of serious differences.
@Elberoth
@Elberoth 2 жыл бұрын
@@siler7 I can give you many more modern examples where mid-life facelift brought more substantial changes, including engines dropping cylinder count, new transmissions, whole body panels beeing replaced (not just lights & bumpers) etc. Countach has also changed A LOT during the 16 years in production, to the point 25th Anniversary barely reasembles the original periscoppio car. But it is still a Countach. Testarossa changes were nowhere near as extensive.
@brucescammells2817

Yes you are right, there is a lot of Ill informed opinion out there. Even the constant talk of the engine's high centre of gravity when actually with the flat 12 configuration and the fact that the transmission is cleverly configured alongside the dry sump makes the overall height and cog lower than a regular V8/12.

Oh it’s pretty beautiful nonetheless. As for the Countach, there are two versions of it, the “Prototipo” and the “Periscopica”. The Prototipo is the “out-there, show-off” version. The Periscopica is the subtly classy, yet sexy version of the Countach IMHO. I prefer the Periscopica, because of its subtle nature compared to the Prototipo. The Periscopica shares the same principle of design as that of the Testarossa.

Both countach and testarossa were poster cars, but my only gripe with the testarossas is that I wished it had a door that opened upwards, like a scissor door or moth door, the door opening in a funny way (like all supercars should) is the one advantage the countach has over the testarossa

Mr Ferrari was a big fan of Miami Vice, so he sent them the white one that appears in the show. I remember Top Gear did a review of the Ferrari Testarossa, and the Countach together. I forgot Crockett had a Testarossa. Maybe because I liked the Daytona Spider so much. Then again, Ferrari threatened to sue the show because the Daytonas used in filming were Corvettes with body kits. So they blew up the Daytona in the show and switched to the white Testarossa. Two of which were given to them by Ferrari.

I owned a 1989 model, dove it for 20 years till 2009. It has no power steering, really difficult to manuver in tight parking space, the steering colmne is flimsy, brakes is nthe weakest part. @@Nikowalker007 The “cam belt service” includes much, much more than just cam belts. The $14k bill I got for the engine-out service was several pages long and includes lots of new hoses, gaskets, thermostats ($1000!), spark plugs and wires (another $1000!), repainting the cam covers ($500), etc. etc. Expensive by any standard, yes, but you can see why I call it a “major service” and not a cam belt service. These cars are driven so little, the service intervals are usually spoken about in terms of years rather than miles. A major service every 5 years is more than enough, so budget about $3k/yr. Not so bad for a 12 cylinder Ferrari, I don’t think. Thanks for your interest in the car, guys. Always fun to share with like-minded car nuts. Would you guys want to watch a video where I go through the whole bill and show you why it costs so much? I considered doing that but wasn’t sure anyone would watch.

Thank you for making this video. As a 40 year old this car was THE Ferrari for everyone born in the early 80s. We had the pictures of this on the wall, along with the countach and F40. I was also one of the extremely lucky kids to have had one in the garage as a teen, as my father did very well for himself and purchased this during his mid-life crisis. Having been allowed to finally drive it when I turned 18, I can say that flat 5L 12 cyl was just pure italian perfection. I am not sure I would say the car was comfortable though. Getting in and out is not easy as you sit about 3 inches off the floor, the car was extremely heavy and with no power steering was near impossible to parallel park, and the brakes were absolutely horrendous. All being said, I would give anything to have that car back in my garage now. Please try and get the new Fioravanti Testarossa resto-mod on here to see if they really did improve the flaws.

Some trivia bits about Gianni Agnelli and his one-off Testarossa Spider. The man is a legend - the richest man in modern Italian history, he controlled 4.4% of Italy’s total GPD as chairman of Fiat Group. Under his stewardship, Fiat Group owned Ferrari at the time, hence his ability to order several unique coachbuilt cars from across the Group’s brands. This included the Testarossa Spider, two Ferrari 365 Ps with McLaren F1-style seating layouts, coachbuilt Fiat 130 wagons and a convertible Lancia Delta Integrale (to name a few). The Testarossa Spider (and some of his other special cars) had another unique feature - a Valeo clutchless manual gearbox. Agnelli had shattered his right leg in an accident in the ‘50s and the clutchless manual made it easier for him to drive his cars. In the Testarossa, you could drive it like a normal manual, but at the press of a button, the clutch could operate automatically as you moved the shifter through its manual gate.

Very connected to the road. Exhaust and upgrade the rims and tires to some 18" and a few other tricks and its amazing. I have an upgraded sound system and usually don't play it because nothing is like that sound. Of all my cars in my stable, the TR gets the most looks and comments. Best purchase i have ever made. The upgraded version of the Testarossa my fit you perfectly even more. The 512TR had updated interior more modern, its hp was increased to 422hp and it came with 18" rims and low profile tires stock. The 1988 you have has the upgraded cooling and A/C along with the 5 lug rims which is huge over the single center spinner that was on the 1987 and prior. Rims and tire upgrade alone on mine was huge. OH, get a MOMO steering wheel, made a nice difference and remember the steering column is adjustable , lower left of the column (up and down motion only) Services vary. Anywhere from 4500 to 20k (for the big 20k service). Some things you want to service while engine is out otherwise you pay again for the R&R all over down the line.

Modern cars are designed by clueless people in the marketing department. Eventually we'll get an electric Ferrari that's fully self driving, silent, and goes from 0 to 100 in 0.1 seconds, thereby knocking you out unconscious for the duration of the ride. You might as well go to sleep while the car drives itself.

This car has a presence in person, not so much in photos, although the front and rear views of it are always striking - so low, wide, ominous. 80s all the way.

I'm glad you guys get it. These are really special and unique to drive. There's nothing else like it, except the 512TR. A daily usable mid engine 12cyl with a gated manual? That is a very, very short list of vehicles. That it's also an 80's icon and gorgeous is just a bonus.

My dad got me a model Testarossa when I was a kid (and no other models). There's an argument for this Ferrari being the only reason I care about cars at all. Glad to see it make the channel. I'm not sure my nostalgia holds up in the face of the review though. I'm glad I own something else.

I just prefer the much simpler design language of the 80s and 90s than the insanely busy cars of today. This is probably top 3 of Ferrari's finest designs. This thing is an event from the outside and it doesn't need a bunch of extra triangles and different colored plastic to get the job done.

I had the experience to drive side by side a red Testarossa in my 89 Vette going 180km. It was amazing the sound of both car exhausts singing in harmony. These cars were made to be driven this way! No need for a tubi exhaust if you can drive at proper speed!

Unfortunately, the police and cities/municipalities have realized how much lucrative revenue is earned by deliberately posting unnecessarily low speed limits, and engaging in overzealous enforcement. Enjoying a car that can safely drive at triple the maximum speed limit is almost an impossibility.

Did you just compare a junk corvette with a whopping 180hp to a ferrari v12?
@dragonfencing5147
@dragonfencing5147 2 жыл бұрын
@@antknee420 you are misinformed 1989 corvette has 240hp with 350lbs of torque and unlike 80-90s Ferrari you don’t have to tune up your car after every time you drive. Did you know that all Testarossa had a mandatory hammer which you would use to tap the starter casing occasionally on hard starts!

@bassclass5998 2 жыл бұрын
Well antknee420. Clearly you don't understand what it's all about. It's not just about numbers. I have a 2012 Taurus sho that is faster and pushes way harder than the Ferrari. But I promise the Ferrari is an experience of a lifetime to drive. And this is coming from someone who's built track cars for a living. ITS NOT ALL ABOUT HP!! 🥴🥴🤪🙄

I was 11 years old when I first saw Ferrari Testosterosa. Ferrari's has been my dream car ever since still to this day that and jaguar believe it or not. I've always had an eye for jaguars For some reason. I've owned the jaguar before, but it was ragley As hell found it for cheap, had a lot of miles on it. But Ferrari has been at the top of my list. Everybody seemed like they want Lamborghini, but if I was a millionaire, I will have I wouldn't have lamborghinis and mclarens, I would have ferraris and porsches.✌🏾✌🏾✌🏾

Glad you enjoyed, Val! Thank YOU for taking such good care of her! Folks, Valentin is the guy who transformed this car over a period of several weeks. If you have any kind of exotica, I highly recommend him. Find him at Pfaff Tuning north of Toronto. I often find him up to his elbows in F40s, XJ220s, Paganis, etc, and he was able to rectify MANY mistakes made by the previous “experts” who performed the last major service. After the experience of having Val looking after my car and keeping me completely informed every step of the way, I wouldn’t go anywhere else. He’s a top tech, and a top all-around guy. At the very least, don’t get a major done on your Ferrari until you talk to Val so he can educate you on the difference between a quick-and-dirty service and a proper one. “Recent major service” can mean a lot of things - Val knows the difference and can help you understand and make an informed decision. When you understand all that’s involved, you understand that $14k (Canadian dollars) including parts represents good value for money; those charging less are doing less, and doing less on these cars is ultimately a false economy. This car’s previous owner spent $6k 14 months ago on a “full cam belt service” at a respected exotic specialist, and there was virtually nothing that didn’t need redoing properly. Having a guy like Val in your corner makes a huge difference. Thanks to him and Pfaff Tuning for helping me give this car the respect and treatment it deserves.

What? No. It was a standout design, but it didn't have a strong influence on many subsequent models. Yes, the TR is very similar, and the 355 is of a similar era - but the elements it shares with others, are not Testarossa elements.

The Ferrari Testarossa (Type F110) is a 12-cylinder mid-engine sports car manufactured by Ferrari, which went into production in 1984 as the successor to the Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer. The Pininfarina-designed car was originally produced from 1984 until 1991, with two model revisions following the end of Testarossa production called the 512 TR and F512 M, which were produced from 1992 until 1996. Including revised variations, almost 10,000 cars in total were produced, making it at the time one of the most mass-produced Ferrari models (source: Wikipedia).
