It was a 1987 GT Pro Performer in Maui blue that I saw when I moved to a new neighborhood as a kid. Fell in love at first site. Saved up all my money I could from paper routes and birthday gifts. Once I had all the cash my parents took me to the bike shop. The owner said to me, “what do you want to get”? I said “a GT PFT with Dyno pretzel bars and a Dyno drain pipe”. He said “great choice, what color do you want”? I said “Dayglo pink”. He paused and said back “I won’t sell a pink bike to a boy”. Chrome it was!

I had a nearly identical bike. They only differences was I had the black mallet/meat tenderizer stem, GT layback seat post and chrome Performer bars. I swapped all of the parts on to a 1st generation GT Aggressor after seeing Joe Johnson ride one at the 2Hip KOV here in 🇨🇦. Wishing I still had it...but happy to still have my 1990 Bully Bashgaurd I switched to back in the day.

Mine was identical to this one too! I switched out the gt spoke rims with a set of 3 spoke gt mags. Mine had a different neck that was angled downward and different handlebars. They were GT but I'm not sure exactly what type etc. The original owner put them on the bike and thats how I got it. This was long before the internet and all I knew was I loved the bike and everything about it was perfect. I sold it to a local kid when I got older but I told him not to butcher it and that if something went wrong with it to let me know and I'd buy it back because he was not going to find the parts to fix it right and nothing off regular run of the mill bikes would work. One day I happened by his house and seen that he'd totally gutted the bike and it was in pieces under his porch. I gathered up everything there and bought it back from him for more than I should have but I was glad to have it back. I planned on restoring it to its former glory with the original GT parts and getting back to exactly like it was. I thought hell maybe some day ill give it to my son. Sadly, this was not to be however. In a final act of injustice my step dad threw it away along with some other bikes and parts I had in storage at my moms while I was working out of state. I was so pissed but they didn't know any better, it was spring cleaning when the town comes and collects all the shit people don't want anymore. When I got home I went to where all the junk was and picked through it trying to find her but she was gone. For awhile she was mine though.

I am a big fan of the GT 86-87 decal designs. But the 88 paintbrush design grew on me. I just do not like the yellow lettering. Coupled with the pink it just gives me this Easter feel. Your bike is amazing though. Great original parts. I would say 9 out of 10 bikes you see online use a lot of repop parts.

☝️😷🍻🤓👍Sweet ride, my guy! My favorite colorway of the PFT has always been dayglo pink, chrome and white. I hate the fact that Lineage/GT hasn't got their shit together like Haro at this point with the reissues. There are GT and DYNO models that are definitely worth a reissuing.

The frame set, bars and seat post were purchased from a survivor and it was reasonable at the time. That was 4 years ago so the prices had not gone ludicrous yet. I sold most of the parts that were not from a team model and it helped offset the costs a bit. The fact that this is in such great condition means it was well taken care of. It meant so much to me to build it back to the way I had my bike BITD. Only difference was I had 1 pc cranks and Peregrine 48’s. The feeling of holding the grips of the Dyno bars while sitting on the drain pipe laid back position made goose bumps on my arm. My original is long gone but this one stays with me now!
