I wonder if the uniforms the athletes wore years ago slowed them down a bit. Present runners wear what appears to be Spandex that reduces wind drag. Just a thought.

Not much, if any at all. Trayvon bromell wears loose fit kits like the ones shown here, Jamaica has consistently wore Loose fit kit’s with simple compression shorts. Look at the Daegu 2011-present. Purely loose fit for Jamaica’s. The change in performance is negligible.

I'm pretty sure it would, but by how much we wouldn't know. It's very hard to find out since many other equipment have changed such as the running spikes and track surfaces. Also advancements in biomechanical studies which leads to improved coaching would contribute to performance gains as well.

Lewis always had a slower start and used to pull out in the second half of the race. Try to imagine what would it be if he had better first halves too..

@@dukedune5717 I disagree. It was unique for his height, and typically kept him with the field through the first 30-40 meters, but his top speed and speed endurance were what created large victory margins at his peak and victory margins when he was not at his best.
