the minute hand is designed to be adjustable by rotating it on it's center bushing, using a small amount of force, take the hand off, grasp the bushing with pliers and rotate the hand accordingly.

I just got a 1979 Ridgeway grandfather clock Friday night 10-10-19. Mine sounds great also. $150.00. Couple months back I picked up a 1976 Hentschel for $180.00. Also have about a dozen wind up pendulum wall clocks. It’s time to learn how to maintain them myself as maintanence fee will add up over time.

All you need to do is remove the minute hand nut, pull the minute hand off and put it back on 3 minutes earlier and wala... the chimes are fixed!

That won’t work the hand nut needs to be turned while holding the hand it is a friction fit.

To fix the way it chimes push the hand right before it’s about to chime then unscrew the nut in the front of the hands then push the hand where it is supposed to chime

We inherited a grandfather clock from my husband's family which is a Ridgeway about 1989-90 model. It keeps good time but minute hand is loose and it does not chime. It did chime until a few years ago but on a few minutes after hour, quarter, half & 3/4 hour. Could the oil I use on my sewing machine? There doesn't appear to be a nut holding minute hand secure.

Don't use sewing machine oil on grandfather clocks. The same for WD40.

What did you do to trigger the chime to go off? When my pawpaw died, greedy portions of my family took all of his stuff and I was left with nothing. One of the family members passed away recently and I managed to buy my pawpaws clock off of her kids and she didn’t take care of it. I would kill to hear that chime again in my own living room. Please reach out!!

In this case I used lubrication oil to get the chime back up and running. Not more than a few drops were used
