William Celester R.I.P. He had his issues but he stood tall in the face of adversity and did a lot for the black officers in his command and was a community leader.

It’s stunning how much classier people were before gangsta rap changed how everyone behaves

Was Charles Stuart "gangsta"? In 89 he shot himself while driving through the projects in Boston, (he, himself was from the suburb of Reading) killed his pregnant wife for the insurance, blamed a Black dude and then ultimately threw himself off the Tobin Bridge when his own brother ratted him out. What of that "behavior"?

What are you talking about during the 80’s- 90’s crack days crime and murder was out of control making today look mild in comparison.🤦‍♂️

@@theprojectsvetHe did not shoot himself while driving through any neighborhood in Boston. However he lied like the coward he was and blamed a random black man so the police set their eyes on an innocent black man from Mission Hill and the police tore up several neighborhoods in the area. His brother snitched on him so he jumped off the Tobin Bridge. Why would you be so compelled to lie about such a tragedy?

A big part of the prevention starts with education. Something to think about. "Rasheen Peppers spent his career chasing down Newark’s most dangerous fugitives, groups of 20-somethings and teens who got caught up in the sprawling gang landscape of the state’s largest city. Week after week, the veteran Newark police officer would interview the prisoners, asking them about their family, friends, school and job history. There was a common link among many of the gang members Peppers arrested, one that went beyond their decision to enter a life that usually ends in a prison cell or a pine box - barely any of them could read." I saw the Eyes On The Prize Civil Rights documentary that dealt with Boston school desegregation in the 70s. There was a part where a guy talked about some letters he read that were written by some of the Black kids. He mentioned how too many of those kids could barely write a complete sentence. That's when he realized how under-educated too many of the Black kids were. So maybe that under education was playing itself out in these violent communities?

I'm surprised I wasnt in this video my damn self! 😆. I grew up there when Tiffany got shot. The building right there on the corner of Humboldt and Hutchings. What had happened was... The Humboldt Raiders were a gang. It consisted of members, primarily, from a collective of parallel streets (like Hutchings). Castlegate Crew, ne Castlegate Road, is off of Blue Hill Ave, which encompasses both Roxbury and Dorchester. The blurry lines of where Roxbury topographically ends, are significant in understanding the proximatal territory beef. All of Roxbury (proper) remains predominantly Black, whereas parts of Dorchester (proper), where your Whalbergs, Damons and Afflecks are from, were heavily mixed. The longstanding confrontation was/is predicated within the context of whom owns the monopoly of "most hood." The drug dealing was/is just a mitigating factor, a consequence of a much larger and nuanced problem. Tiffany, whom we all knew, was at the wrong place at the wrong time. It wasn't over a girl and it wasn't drug related. It was about rivaly and rep'n. Drug use and dealing was heavy, make no mistake. However, the incendiary drug "narrative" was crafted in an effort to deflect the macro issues; unemployment, poor schools, over policing, poverty, etc. The socioeconomic depression of the 80's fostered a climate of hostility and survival. Senator Kerry was able to articulate policy lapses through the use of (artificially) progressive talking points. Anyone from Massachusetts, particularly gen-x and boomers, can attest to the fact that systems within The Commonwealth, are historically conservative. And Massachusetts HAS had, and STILL has teriible race relations. Even predominantly white districts like South Boston, "Southie" and towns like Revere and Somerville were hard up throughout the 70's to mid 90's. They've all since gentrified at greater rates in comparison to Boston neighborhoods Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan. Infer what you will. Aunty there, quite efficiently, eluded to the fact that suburbs like Concord, are thee privilged communities. I, myself, was bussed to Reading for 12 years, (can't you hear my pretentious Metco student tone?! 😂) and had the benefit of both worlds. And she was right on. We were clapping each other, killing ourselves. We have to acknowledge that and be accountable. But, not to belabor the point, intentionally oppressive structure will breed negative outcomes. Anywhere. Thanks for posting this! 👊🏿

My house was 83 Homestead Street, across where Tiffany was killed. I grew up in Roxbury most of my life, and most of your paragraph is false. The only thing oppressing the people in that community was/is themselves. No one forced them to sell poison and kill their own. Just because you live in the "hood" doesn't exempt you from having morals, which the majority of that neighborhood didn't have. My parents worked hard to get us out of that neighborhood, which the majority of the decent families did. It's not a systematic or a race issue. It's a mentality issue. If you took those same people from that neighborhood and put them in the suburbs, they would destroy it.
