I played 845s for years. I shot the lowest round I ever shot with them, a 74 at Carmel, CA. I hit a 9 iron in the hole for eagle on #9 from 125 yards. It was 5pm in the afternoon, and there was probably 100 people on the deck having cocktails at the clubhouse. They gave me a standing ovation as I waved the old 845 Silver Scot at them. It is my favorite memory in golf.

Nice to hear someone giving these irons the credit they deserve. I bought a used 3-PW set back in 1994 for $175 and I’m still playing with them now...and always will. Shortly after that I picked up a 2 iron, W3, SW, and W4. I’ve been criticized over the years for not upgrading and spending $1000+ on sets of irons which is ridiculous to say the least. I’ve seen many golfers overspend on irons. 845s are very consistent with a slightly larger sweet spot, but still give great feedback when miss hit. I’ve been a 0-5 handicap over the past 30 years and I can honestly say it’s not because I kept the latest and greatest clubs. I’d really like to see a video review on the Tommy Armour 845fs 400cc driver, if you can find one. They stopped making them in 03

I absolutely love these irons and still play them today! I love the more classic look of these, and the fact that they just work so well, even today. Also, you can pick up a full set of these in great condition online, or at garage sales for cheap since they sold so many of these in the day. And finding a replacement club is super easy. Not to mention that even though many sets have been played extensively, the groves seem to hold up. I've had multiple sets that the groves still look and work great, even after they were played a lot. Just such a classic set of irons, and a must own for anyone. I also love the 4 wedges that came with this set......I've been tracking them down.....found a W3 in a bargain bin at a local store for $7! I love your channel.....keep up the great work....and never lose that enthusiasm for golfing and vintage clubs! Could you review more hybrids? The 845s are great irons.

My dad was lucky enough to have a set of these given to him by a very wealthy cousin of our's from America - he brought them over to the UK to play with and said he would leave them here for when he visits again but the next time he came he brought a new set of Callaways with him and told my dad to keep the Tommy Armours! I pinched the 60 degree lob wedge out of the set but they're absolutely mint and I'd use them myself if I didn't already have a custom measured set of Ping i3+ irons! Oh my God - the Ping Zing IIs were amazing as well...played with a set of them when I was visiting America with my parents for one of my cousin's weddings - me and my dad got invited by the groom and the father of the bride to go and play a round on this swanky course with them and a few others and I got to use the Ping Zing IIs there...they were SO nice and the reason I begged for years afterwards that any big birthday/Christmas presents my parents wanted to get me be forgotten and instead save so I could put money towards buying a set of Ping irons some day. On my 21st birthday I finally had enough money to go halves with my dad on that aforementioned set of Ping i3+ irons custom fitted as I'm a tall guy! =]

CorgiDoom1881, I hit my first 3 iron off a tee and it was that club. My friends were all using a driver or 3 woods and they were all short of the green (and 2 out of three of them are far better golfers) and my shot went onto the green and rolled just off the green on the backside. Needless to say I was shocked. A 3 iron in the bag? Probably not as I could never hit it off the green but man that was fun. These irons are so soft that I hardly feel the impact. The hype is real.

I have a set of the 845's and a nice set of the ti faced 845's that are pretty rare. Both play well and the ti faced irons are very long. They are both standard loft and lie and I have should have them adjusted for 2 deg. flat. Easiest club I've ever played though are the Ping Zing II's. Orange dot. Should never have sold that set when I quit playing. Just started the game back up after many years of laying off the game. I've several old sets of the Hogan GCD's too. I was given 2 sets of clubs by my boss when I cleaned up his shop when he first bought it. ( it was before I started working for him and the clubs were not what he paid me) but I have a set and another half of a set of the 845s Silver Scot. 3-PW so I am gonna buy the 1i, 2i, and SW just to have the full set of them to satisfy the side of me that wants to collect everything. The half set had irons replaced with a Callaways bc based on broken shafts I found in the bag the previous owner was an angry golfer... They were kinda dirty and even had some rust on them so I used nevr dull to clean all that up and they look absolutely amazing now. Not sure if the putter I have matches with the set but it's the Tommy Armour T-Line XIV ( just haven't looked into it yet) honestly was gonna replace it with something more modern based on feel (I felt the Taylormade Spider X the other day and kinda fell in love with it) but all they clubs will be kept even if I replace them down the road. Also ik cleaning the rust off removed the feel of it being a vintage set but they have been beat up a little and I'd rather them only have a couple flaws than also be dirty and rusty. And yes Nevr dull works great on removing rust so if you want to restore them without removing the finish I recommend using it. They still have the vintage look without the signs of abuse other than actual damage like gouges.

It's 2023. I picked up a set of 855s for the princely sum of $10 and compared them to my set of Taylormade P-790's that cost over 100 times more. 855s gave the P-790's a run for the money (pun intended). 855s ball flight is higher. P-790 goes further. 855s is very forgiving, P-790 less so. IMO, the 855s still hits like a modern club despite being a 30 plus year old design. A beginner can go a long way with these clubs.

@ExbotHero5 жыл бұрын
The original 845s 1988-1997 wasn't strong-lofted. 7 iron was 36 ° PW 48 ° (It was a standard 4 ° increment almost all the way through the set 5-PW) The 3 ° increment was between 5, 4 and 3. Hardly a strong-lofted set in my book - Just the opposite. But well. If you compare to the set they had in the 1960th you might have a point. They where 4 ° through all the set with a PW 52 °. But that wasn't your point, right?! The club in the 1980th was similar to the Tommy Armour 845s.
