1989 Maytag A512 Fabric-Matic Washer - Full Regular Fabrics Cycle

Even at 32 years old, this washer still performs like it was only made yesterday. I put a stop to the vibrations coming from the upper back panel but have yet to figure out what the cause of the squeak during the agitation phase was. Belts probably? Anyhow, it didn't affect the performace at all. I'm very glad to see this machine up and running again and hope to get as many years of trouble free service out of it as I possibly can!

That's my washing machine I miss that washing machine it was a good machine I love the Maytag washing machines the dryers the fridges the dishwashers are really cool and they lasted a long time

I have the la612 from 1985. Run it every other day. Just now replaced the injector nozzel and sleeve after 37 yrs. I'm 70yrs old. I'm hoping it lasts me out and shows signs of doing it ! I now know why companies makes products to fail. I haven't needed a washing machine going on 37 yrs. ps, I've always used soft water through it. This prevents a lot of problems through out the whole house in my opinion. My bath tub is original from 1963 and the finish still looks new. Soft water my friends. ps. Installer told me never to use the extra load cycle. I have and it is too much water and clothes to churn. I can tell the motor and transmission are working too hard. Baby all your machines. I have a Toro walk behind mower 25 yrs old and still has great compression. change oil and new blade every yr and boom, 25 yrs later still running.

As a small side note: XN on the serial number is the date code. X is for the year (1989) and N is for the month (July). Being July of 1989, this is probably one of the first orbital transmission Maytag’s, as they made the switch in the summer of 1989. My A482 is XC, or February of 1989, making it the last Helical transmission Maytags. So our Maytags are from the same year, and not too far apart in age!

Congrats. I remember when these were new on the showroom floors. I've always liked this generation of Maytag with the timer dials on the right. Also like the early kitchenAid washers that were out at the time this was made.

I'm still using this same model. It's running as we speak, but mine isn't as in good condition and mine needs cleaning. It's an amazing machine for sure.

Woooo! Glad to see it’s working well! That vibration is probably just the lid vibrating against the panel. Usually what I do is put a small washcloth or hand towel between the lid and the console to keep the two from vibrating against eachother. The timer sounds identical to the timer on my A482 as well! Very cool!

Thought i'd tell you, that i am hoping to come across a Maytag Commercial MAT12 or 13 model and take that as part of my collection! Once i have one, i will do videos for sure! It's got the same mechanicals as yours but different bowl and agitator and everything!! 😁😁
