This is my 1989 Mitsubishi Mighty Max with a mild 318 and a 5 speed. Just talking about the truck some, showing it off, and talking about some future plans for it. At the end the throttle linkage sticks a little so I apologize for that as well as my speech skills. I also meant radiator fan switch about midway through the video. Enjoy!

any recommendation s on a motor? your video literally has inspired me to move forward with my ram 50

If I were going to do it again I would do a 360. Just a little more power for the same price really. You could pick up a Magnum 360 ('93-'02) cheap. They come standard with 230 hp and you can buy an intake to make them carbureted. Plus all Chrysler 3.9 V6, 318 and 360 engines had the same bell housing.

did you have to make a lot of modifications to the motor mounts with your 318?

Yes I did. The mounts were moved 4 or 5 inches forward, rebuild cradle, rebuild trans cross member, had to fabricate a tunnel as well. No man you can email me. Just give me your email and I will email you.

What did you do for the wiring? I have no clue how to do any of that any tips will help. I’m using a bone stock 318 out of an 84 d100.

Just used as much stock harness as possible. The only thing I wired in was the MSD. Now the truck has a Painless harness.

I got a question for ya, did you run the stock rear end? I’m debating on running stock in my 93 mighty max, or fabricating a Ford 8.8 to fit, as I’m planning to swap to a sbc 350. Very sweet build man, hope you still got it to this day

not expecting a reply since this vid is 5 years old now but ive got a 95 I plan to swap to a 318 when the lil 2.4 eventually gives out. Just a quick question about that hood scoop, did you fabricate that or buy it and fit it to the stock hood? Sweet truck

man, I have 2 of these, a 1988 mm and 1989 d50, im looking to swap out the engine in one of these, would you happen to know what else i could put down in there that will connect to the orginal tranny?

If it's a 2.0, you can swap a 4g63 and maybe some other Mitsubishi engines. I think the 2.6 trans would only bolt to a 2.6

@@dsauto75 yeah its the original 2.0 G63B in there now. I'll look into the 4G63 from what I understand the 4G is a wider engine? but thanks for the info.

The short block was given to me but it went to the machine shop right after I got it. The trans came out of a '94 Dakota.

are the stock motor mounts similar enough for this swap, or did you have to weld your own hard mounts? thanks. I currently have a 2.4l so might not be the same.

I cut the stock 2.0 truck mounts off the frame and moved them forward about 5 inches.

That's awesome, man! I've got a Mighty Max that's working well at the moment, but a V8 swap is on the itinerary if something lets go in the powertrain. You said that you're running an automatic transmission now; which one did you switch to? Did it fit in the tunnel as it was in the video? Did you have to do any suspension work to support the 318? Were you ever able to convert to power steering? Thank you for doing this, and thank you for your time, bud!

Chrysler 904. Yes it does. No, it is still stock. I did not. I could have put power steering but decided not to.

zachary woody Probably fitting the engine and trans in. You have to have everything out of the way first.

Please contact me about this swap you did! I've got the same truck but a long bed 1-ton that I've already done the Toyota hub and axle swaps to. Need to really know what trans to get the starter on the pass side. My NV3550 is on drivers side (from a '97 ram) Thanks

BlownAway I'm not sure what trans you would use other than a Chevy trans to get the starter on the passengers side. I used an AX-15 transmission out of a Dakota. I figured the NV3500 would require much more modifications.

You will be able to see on the front of the engine if the water pump is leaking.

look at the 90-94 montero or ram 50 4x4 same bolt pattern, width and limited slip

Yeah, but I want 3.55 gears. Plus I'm going to narrow the rearend for some 29×18.5-15 under it.

Cool, gotcha. I did the swap back in the early 90's with a built 340/727. Lookn for another 50 and going L67 supercharged v6/5spd, 3 bolt ons and its pushing 300+ (headers, roller rockers, pulley swap) or i may go with an R3 build.

Nice. This one is getting a 318 with some major work and a 904 soon. I think the AX-15 will disintegrate with those new tires.
