This video is about a Jaguar XJR-12 Group C car in action at Spa-Francorchamps circuit during the 2017 Spa Classic event organized by Peter Auto.
The car is chassis #J12-C-190 and it was built in January 1990 for that year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was then raced for several years in the States an then it was retired to the TWR Museum. In 2003 XJR-12/190 was bought from the museum and has been regularly raced in the historic Group C series. The car is powered by a 7.0-litre V12 engine which was able to produce 750 bhp. Listen to it screaming around the track!

Great video of this classic, Bozzy! That V12 with Medusa-style exhaust headers, is pure magic! It's really awesome that you get to video these cars up close and personal in the garage like that. LOL on the co-pilot at 0:13 !😂😂 Did you notice the guy playing peek-a-boo with you and sneaking a photo at 3:32? He knows a celebrity when he sees one.😆 How about that roostertail at 6:47? Awesome vantage point! Now about the shifting... while it isn't lightning fast like today's cars, the sound it makes between shifts is so wicked!😍 Keep doing what you do, bro! Cheers!

When this car raced during LeMans in 1990, the front end would lift up down the Mulsanne Straight at over 370 km/h. Danish John Nielsen's team engineers, didn't understand why the rear wheels we doing 370+ km/h, while the front wheels only did around 250 km/h :)

+VIZIN #Bounce _"When this car raced during LeMans in 1990, the front end would lift up down the Mulsanne Straight at over 370 km/h. Danish John Nielsen's team engineers, didn't understand why the rear wheels we doing 370+ km/h, while the front wheels only did around 250 km/h :)"_ That's actually not very difficult to explain. The first thing to realise is that tyre slip needs to be factored into it. Tyre slip is the small amount of wheelspin a driving wheel has, even though it is not losing a lot of traction. In fact, tyre manufacturers design their products with this in mind. People frequently calculate what a car's theoretical top speed will be according to revs and gearing. But that doesn't give you a very valid answer if you leave out tyre slip. The usual factor is 1.1 so a car doing a measurable speed of 300 km/h will have the driving wheels revolving at 330 km/h. Normally the front wheels should revolve at 300. However - and I stress that I don't know whether this feature was used in the Jaguar - designers at that time were messing with soft rear suspension to limit the angle of attack under load. At very high speeds - like 320 km/h or more - the rear suspension would sag slightly, minutely lowering drag. This is potentially incredibly dangerous but Group C was a fuel efficiency formula and drag reduction was extremely important. Formula One tried with with rear wing pedestals until they started failing and putting people into barriers. Anyhow, the reduced pressure on the front wheels might explain why they are turning more slowly. So the Jag would have been doing about 336 km/h and losing the remaining the remaining 34 km/h in tyre slip. Having the car moving about in pitch like that thoughts just plain dangerous but how could you stop it?
@mikebaz7843
@mikebaz7843 7 жыл бұрын
Would the slip ratio split would be that high towards vmax, though? I had trouble finding information on the relationship of slip vs speed, but with torque at its lowest and downforce at its highest, I've no doubt there would be some discrepancy.

The lack of covers was one reason the XJR-8LM was my favourite TWR jag... but they just hinge up & latch, doesn't add any delay. I think you could fuel & change tyres at the same time back then, but I might be misremembering.
@MrVoss94

Yes the time gained on track (remember pre 90 they were at WOT for more than a minute on the straight), and also the fuel economy gained outweighed the couple of seconds needed to move and relatch the wheel covers. In the "sprint" races as many people called them, the advantage was smaller and so they often weren't used

@19Bozzy92
@19Bozzy92 7 жыл бұрын
hahah Glad you like it! There are many reasons for those collabs but let's say the main one is to get more shots of the cars we want to record the most. Like during Spa Classic the GT1 cars (Murcielago, MC12, 550 Maranello etc) only had three 20-minutes sessions during the whole weekend. Being three people on three different points it makes a great difference in terms of how many different angles you can have instead of just a couple if I was alone there

19Bozzy92 Also Bozzy, do you plan on going to anymore WEC events anytime soon? Because I really like seeing those cars, my favourite sounding being the 488 GTE. (Some say I'm odd for liking it over the 458)

While I prefer the rumble of the Sauber C11, this thing sounds like an absolute beast!
