The 4.0 is back under the grinder and in this episode the goal is to remove all rusted metal that's too far gone. The rocker panels are getting cut out and all pitted rust will be treated with rust removal spray, then washed and primed. The primer will be a combination of standard zink primer and for the sections that require welding I will be using a UPOL heavy zink weld through primer. This just keeps everything in good shape until the Jeep roles into the workshop and gets welded up. I've moved fairly quickly up to this point on the 4.0, taking advantage of good weather before the winds turn and the snow falls. Thanks for all your support! Mike

It's a fun project, and it's nice to get stuck into an old XJ after having worked on several now. I'm glad the front is mint. The rear is pretty simple. Welding next! Thanks for watching!

For the grinder spark marks on glass try some car detailing "iron remover" or the type of wheel cleaners that "bleed" when they encounter brake dust / iron. It might just eat it off the glass.

Bought mine October last year, did all the flooring and the unibody part where the gas filler neck goes through, it was a hell of a job. In Quebec, Canada theres not much cherokee left because of the hard winters and salt. The body was pretty clean so I thought I'd repair it ! Just found your channel and love it, keep up the nice work ! I might do the hinge bracket like you did !

Absolute legend bro thank you for your videos. I've been building up the XJ I inherited and have been aiming towards something stock-ish but REALLY making sure I avoid as much rust as possible because its very clean right now and your pointers have been golden knowledge. Keep it up homie, cant wait to see what you have next and have an amazing time camping!

I have a simple solution for the front fender, I have a similar setup with my box rocker. I just welded on a 90 degree with two holes on the bottom end of the fender. Then I drilled and tapped the boxrocker. Two M6 Bolts per side are perfectly.
@WorkshoptoWilderness4 ай бұрын
That's a good idea, I will see if I can do that when I come to installing the box section. Thanks for the tip!

Great work. One question tho'. Why not doing an internal frame stiffeners now that you are "there"?
@WorkshoptoWilderness4 ай бұрын
I prefer the external ones, to be honest. I just found them easy to weld in and implement. I will build a slide in frame tie in Kit for the rear for the bumper and tow support. It's a shame I don't have a frame Stiffeners set here, or it would be going straight on.
@dvdguana4 ай бұрын
@@WorkshoptoWilderness That's true, due to lack of space for welding, the external one are the best. A friend of mine did what you are doing with internal stiffeners he just created and man, woooww, what a job he did

Do you drill access holes and the spray undercoating into the voids and doors (plastic plugs) as we do in Canada to protect the undercarriage. I have done a lot of rocker panel replacements for people with older vehicles, I cut all the rocker off and weld in new ones or fabricated ones, but I always spray undercoating inside after with very good results.
@WorkshoptoWilderness4 ай бұрын
Yeah, absolutely. I talked about this in the video. Dinitrol 3125 cavity wax with inhibitors. It's the only way to go around here if you want to save a vehicle. My diesel is full of cavity wax in the doors, frame, and all other cavites. Saved it's life basically!
