Can't believe how old the NSX is now... Time flies. I worked as a 'detailer' in '89-92 at an Acura dealership and never forget the GM allowing me to go to the gas station to fill up our first NSX arrival (first Canadian Acura dealership to get one, so I was told) 250hp 3.0L. Great memories.

I had the JDM short gears and NSX-R R&P swapped into my 92 NSX. The car is TRANSFORMED in the way it drives. I love the car even more than before! It’s much more usable on the street now. It’s the best money spent on the car. Watching this video, it’s clearly evident of how tall the stock gearing really is.

👍 To this owner for bringing an old classic to the track. I've got a 19 old car myself and it's getting harder to find parts and keep it maintained, now imagine 30 years old. Wow. New cars are cool, but it brings a smile to my face every time I see a cool old car show up to the track.

A car helped tuned by ayrton senna, a beast of a car!!! There is a KZbin video of him driving it around a track. Really nice car!!!

Finally got around to watching this. Nice just sitting onboard for a few laps. The comment about the chassis not keeping up with the modern tyres was interesting. The natural solution to think of is upgrading all those things to cope, but there is another option if the car is only very occasionally going to be taken on track: go back to a less sticky tyre! If you're not chasing laptimes or want to be the absolute fastest thing on a canyon road, it's just as satisfying to bring the car back in "balance" by taking the factor out of the equation (in this case tyres) that is outperforming everything else. People do the same with Miatas - throw masses of rubber at a mostly stock car when even on the factory 185-section tyres it barely has enough power to break traction. Not saying that everything is perfect when a car is stock, but if one aspect is outperforming everything else, the solution isn't always to change everything else...

The brakes are the sketchiest thing on a stock early car, IMHO. A few laps of Road American in mine and my brakes were on fire. Literally melted the caps on my air valves. I couldn't get my hands close enough to check tire pressures it was so hot. But so much fun!

Add supercharger. Big brakes and u compete with most sports cars

This reminds me of my E36 M3 experience so far. Unbelievably slow bus like rack and general wallowiness. Just 90s stuff I guess

It adds character and makes driving more of an event. We are spoiled by modern cars!

Nice video! I was curious if you've ever driven any older generation Supras on track? They are more grand tourers, but would be interested in your take/observations. Something as old as a Mark 2, 3 or 4 Supra would be neat to see

I have not! Would love to try all the old JDM cars on track.

I just can’t imagine tracking a car on 215 tires.
@llavero57 ай бұрын
Why? the front car is lightweight without engine. A very wide tire that does not tread well is more worrying.

Hey Zygrene, do you know what the car's brake lamp light on mean on the dash board? It's on my NSX and I am not sure why it's on

@zygrene what was faster, your BRZ or NSX around a track or canyon road after upgrades? I know they’re very different cars but just curious. I know it’s not all about lap times (driver engagement/ enjoyment) but just curious.
@Zygrene7 ай бұрын
In corners, BRZ hands down because it's easier to drive. Whether it actually has more grip or not, I'm not sure.

You mentioned steering feedback with this car's manual rack. Wouldn't a S2000 EPS rack take away feedback since its pure electrical?
@samueldowney28067 ай бұрын
Yes! Yuck!
@Zygrene7 ай бұрын
It would, but I'm curious how the quicker ratio would improve the drivability on track

How many gears are there? I get like 40 mph on 2nd on my r32
@samueldowney28067 ай бұрын
So what steering setup does the NSX-R have? That's unpowered I thought? But this looks so slow and heavy. That engine and induction noise though....best sounding V6 ever imo. Glorious.
@sketch2427 ай бұрын
The NSX-R has the same manual rack as this car. All 97+ except the NSX-R and all automatics have EPS. The steering ratio was the same with EPS, it just had power assist up to 25mph.
@Zygrene7 ай бұрын
AFAIK the Type R has the same steering rack

Hi @Zygrene , quick question. Since the Cayman also has long gears, is it as noticeable as the NSX? (I am referring to NON-GT Caymans/Boxsters)
@Zygrene7 ай бұрын
NSX gears are much longer vs 987.1 Cayman S. Closer to 981 GT4 gearing but with way less power.
@CesarMartinez-gl9ko7 ай бұрын
@@Zygrene I was thinking about purchasing a 981 S but was concerned about the long gears, as I don't want to drive all the way to 80 in 2nd haha

I know we're comparing apples to oranges, but as a proud owner of a new Camaro 1SS, how does this NSX compare to the 1LE you drove a few weeks back?
@jasonwang34137 ай бұрын
I had a 2018 SS 1LE (this is my NSX) so I can chime in here. They're very different cars but both extremely fun. The Camaro has a ton more everything. Size, weight, power, torque, modern niceties, etc. The NSX is very pure. Fenton mentioned the visibility, steering feel, and of course, the "nostalgia" of an NSX. I loved my Camaro... still the best value out of the box track car in my opinion. And of course, it's a lot faster. But the NSX is just so special in ways that are not attainable in modern cars. And it gets a lot of attention as well... for better or worse.
@patrickwong69127 ай бұрын
@@jasonwang3413 nice, you have good taste in cars. I am obsessed with old school Honda performance, and would take a 90s NSX over a new one any day of the week.
@Zygrene7 ай бұрын
@@patrickwong6912 - what @jasonwang3413 said! Very different cars. 1LE has way more performance yet doesn't feel nearly as special

Short shift into 3rd gear, constantly keeping the engine below 5,000rpm. NSX is no American muscle, you have to rev it out to extract all the horsepower. This should be a common fact by now as VTEC has been around for 30+ years!
