I have a Royal 9700 from 1993 that's one of my daily drivers. Similar to those, but with a 7A motor that generates a helluva lot of airflow and the newer hex-ended brush roll that's the bomb at removing sand. I've even got the attachments for it, albeit in neutral gray instead of the matching burgundy. They're cumbersome to put on, but work well once you do, at least. I have a Model 2075, too, from 1996. That's got a 10A motor, IIRC one of the few US-made models that do. (The last ones, the Everlast RY8100/8200/8300, had 10A motors too but are made in China). The 2075 is crazy loud, though, and only fractionally more powerful than the 9700, so I'm selling it. The 2075 came to me with its fill tube broken, so I MacGyvered it to use Kirby bags instead, which works pretty well. Both of these have a toe-touch infinite height adjustment system, the best of both worlds relative to the older models, and both have the 9-vane fans. You can mod any Royal that uses Type A bags a lot more easily, though - just attach a Kirby G-series fill tube to the F&G stub tube with a hose clamp, sealing it with silicone or epoxy if desired, and then stick in a Kirby bag and be on your way. (This is nice because Kirby bags are easy to find and there are HEPA filtering versions that maintain airflow really well.)

You can still get modern vacuums with that same brand-named but to quote the singer Lorde, "They'll never be Royals".

Very nice machine! I used to have an 801 and two 880s at one time. I also had the 501 hand vac, also. The way you vacuum your couch with the handle locked is what I do with my Kirby model 519 when I use it.

Remember the air conditioner saying "Oh I'm real scared Kirby, what are you going to do, suck me to death?" LOL. I need to get that movie on Blu-Ray and watch it again.

This one starts up and sounds a lot older than what it really is. Nothing wrong with that, I love the sound of it. Also, I'm getting a Royal Price 501. It's not the one with the oil ports but that's alright, I can still service it.

If they didn't, you can probably import a British version.

I like that one. Nice colors, smooth motor sound, and light weight. The motor sound kinda reminds me of a kitchen mixer. Which of the vacuums in your collection is currently your favorite overall? You've gotten some nice ones lately.
