Classic Ethiopian style, wait for the final lap. Only exception was Almaz Ayana. I remember this race very well, watched it live on TV and held all my fingers crossed for Tulu. Not against Elana Meyer personally, but to shame the outgoing apartheid-politicians.

I wish Meyer dropped back a few times to force Tulu to take up the lead but she liked being in the control position which definitely cost her the race.

I dont think she had a chance , Derartu Tulu was capable of much more she just didn't want to lead. FYI Tulu is the aunt of Tirunesh Dibaba.

It does not matter whatever strategy Meyer has because Derartu has both the stamina and lethal kick!!!
