A diesel tec. here, high load for a long time increases EGT'S and the extra heat blows the head gasket or cracks the head. or city driving vs highway heavy load. Your right on the money with you explanation. keep up the good videos

From 1990 to 1996, this "dark red" color was common for 4 Runner SUVs in North America. I thought the rear gate assembly was a cumbersome design prior to 1996. Since then, a more convenient lift gate with power window has made the 4 Runner more desirable.

Highly recommend for this engine after drive in freeway befofe shot up live idling 5 minut, tthis help cool down turbo and prevent local cracks in head-cylinder!

good advice! i own a 1990 2L-T surf and the best thing i've ever done for it is buy a pyrometer gauge to monitor the EGTs with to prevent head cracking. with that mod i think it's basically just as good as the 1KZ-T! i've had no issues over 15,000km, i'd trust that little engine to drive across canada right now as long as i keep the EGTs low

palm exactly true EGT around 1000-1200 temperature?

JDM CAR and MOTORCYCLE i have the EGT sensor probe installed pre-turbo (directly in the manifold) and yeah that's about accurate for me! around 1100-1200°F is what i'm able to keep it to at its highest while climbing hills on highways in 30°C summer heat around vancouver. by downshifting going up the worst hills i'm able to make it so it never exceeds 1200°F (i've never had a problem at that temperature so that's what i'd recommend using as a max to avoid head damage). idling it's generally around 250-350°F, and general city driving on the flat it reads about 800-900°F i also recommend always letting the EGT's cool down to 350°F before turning the engine off so no damage occurs from leaving uncirculating hot gas in the turbo and cylinder head! i have no turbo timer so that's what i've always done to be safe

palm and after approximately 1992-93 toyota start to use new headcylinder Little better construction.

Do you think if more people put inter coolers on these it would help with keeping the iats cool and prevent the head cracking issues

9 times out of 10 a cracked head is a symptom of another problem causing the head to crack.. the gaskets are steel and I've never seen one fail it's always the head caused by clog radiator or loss of water through leakage.. any way i have heqps of these here in new zealand ... not worth much
