My family uses a 99 CR-V as a beater car for driving around in "those neighborhoods" and whatnot. The pillars are so thin you literally have a 360° view and the spare tire in the back gives you a point of reference when you're parallel parking. Easiest drivers license test ever.

@kenetheories8 жыл бұрын
Yes!!!! AE86!!! I bought an 86 Corolla GTS in 1999 for $100, (Initial D or drifting in general wasn't particularly popular in the states then but when the Internet was a baby I was following the Slide Squad guys) and although I only owned VW's all my buddies were Honda owners. After I picked up the car I took it to the kick it spot and all the homies laughed at me. I dropped the clutch and spun the back end and they still didn't get it. Now a days they'd probably piss themselves.

If Honda built this same car now but a little modernized, and charged the same money as a 370Z, I think they'd have something to sell quite well
@Oneshotup9 жыл бұрын
They are in the process of building it but it is exactly what we don't want, 3 electric motors and 150K. Looks are ok but ultra modern, less timeless. Just google the 2016 NSX, however I think you will be disappointed.
@maximus94019 жыл бұрын
Oneshotup Oh I know all about the new NSX. Been following it for years. What I mean is that if they build a similar sized and weighted MR sports car with a 3 liter V6 high-revving engine and the same handling characteristics as the original NSX, they would sell quite well. It's a completely different philosophy to what the new NSX will be, although they are both New-Sportscar-eXperimental
@Oneshotup9 жыл бұрын
maximus9401 yeah well I think that is wishful thinking. The 90's produced some of the greatest cars to ever roll on this Earth. Seems like nowadays cars are bloated rolling safety cages weighted down with too much safety equipment and smog compliant hardware.
@TassieLorenzo9 жыл бұрын
maximus9401 It's hardly in the same league as a 370Z though! 370Z is a glorified sort of Infiniti chassis, LOTS of compromises because it's based on a ordinary infiniti V6 RWD sedan. NSX is a ground-up all aluminum sports car with *no* compromises. :)
@justforever969 жыл бұрын
+Oneshotup I agree with everything you just said (see above comment), except for the bit about "smog compliant hardware". Emissions equipment has been around since the 1970's, and it used to be a lot heavier and more restrictive than it is now. All cars in the 1990's had emissions equipment, but it worked a lot better than the 1970's and 80's stuff. The problem with modern cars isn't that they have emissions equipment, it's more with the engine tuning to meet Federal emissions requirements. You can gain a lot more power by re-programing the engine than you can by removing the catalytic converter or EGR system. Just thought I'd point that technicality out. Anyway, I blame the Federal government more than the automakers, with all their politically-motivated bullshit requirements. And the cars makers just make what people want to buy, and sadly, there are a hell of a lot more people who want Corollas than who want Preludes or NSX's. A company only has the capacity to make a certain number of cars per year, and they rarely make much money off of sports cars (unless they can charge German prices). The only reason to sell them is usually for brand prestige, or other reasons, not because they make a lot of money; think about how much it cost Honda to develop an advanced chassis like the NSX and then build and sell it? I doubt they did much better than make their money back in the long run. Anyway, given that production is limited to, say, 1 million cars per year, and they can't even make enough Civics to meet demand as it is, the car company isn't going to want to use that production capacity to build a sports car...the money comes from using that capacity to build more Civics. Buying or building a whole new factory is very expensive, and they only have so much money in their budget to work with, which is needed for developing a new generation Civic or Accord, etc. There are a lot of variables at work, but a company can rarely just go off and build whatever it wants, not without a hell of a gamble and effort anyway. Given all this, what amazes me the most is that the original NSX was built at all! To develop and market such an advanced chassis, against the best German and Italian competition and the most snobby car buyers in the world was a hell of a long shot. I'd say they did it merely as a point of pride, to demonstrate that they could build a car just as good as any made by the Europeans, but one that was also reliable and driveable. An amazing car, really. It amazes me to this day that there are still some people who go around calling Japanese cars "junk" like they are some cheap knock-off crap. It's like they honestly aren't aware that it's not 1960 anymore, and that Japanese cars have consistently embarrassed American cars in terms of build quality, reliability and driving experience for over 30 years, and they manage to do it at a fraction of the cost of European "quality". And they somehow even seem to make spare parts that cost around half to a quarter what spare parts for a European car sell for. Funny, that.

@martinfrederickatkins43217 жыл бұрын
i checked on nsxprime forum and read about 3.2 j motors being swapped into nsx's, direct fit, only adding motor mount adapters, but keeping everything else stock: trans, flywheel, etc. just imagine if honda did that themselves back in 1997, rather than bore out the c motors. the nsx would have stayed longer in production and the msrp price woulda prob drop back to $65,000 rathjer than jump to $90,000. the j motor was lighter and woulda kept the nsx below 3000lb., also much cheaper and could make 340whp with a simple tune and exhaust intake improvements. honda had more ptential with this car than they would admit. with the j-motor the na2 nsx's woulda been a beast for a good price, but honda wanted to stick with the c motors to show off the technological marvel it was, but it was an expensive motor to make thus making the car itself expensive. the price was about the only thing that killed this car.

The NSX cockpit was inspired by the F-16 Falcon Fighter jet and that its why its view from inside its so amazing. You can see everything perfectly. As far as the comment of the rear view compared to the S2000 you are 110% correct, if the top its not down on the S2000 its a horrible experience to look back. My only two complaints about the S2000 are the stereo and the rear visibility with the top up but nothing I can't fix by putting the top down and shutting the crappy stereo off and just listen to the engine. Heavenly!!!

Regarding the 'feet clapping', have you considered the 'dirt on carpet vs. wear on seat' consequences? I mean, it's noble that you do so, but dirt is dirt, and that rotation you do on the seat must stretch the hell out of the leather/fabric. I know it's a 'one time thing', but it drives me nuts after all this videos xD
@rADIOLINJA9 жыл бұрын
Bruno Oliveira that leather seat has so low friction that the rotation doesnt wear or strech the seat no more than the usual ass movement while driving in which you basically can't do anything. leather seats do stretch over time no matter you do, but it is just a thing you have to accept :/ best prevention is to treat the seats with special leather conditioners time to time. i have plush seats on my car and no visible wear or tear after 40000 miles and always clapping my feet before getting in, or maybe that's because i don't weigh very much :)
@94BrunoO9 жыл бұрын
rUSINALAPSI I'll take your word for it. Mines aren't leather, and I know that a lot of movement, such as that, really stretches not only the fabric, but also the stitching, which has already started to give up..
@StreetSpeed7179 жыл бұрын
Bruno Oliveira just like in my vette haha you position yourself forward and then drop in so you don't touch the side bolster or stretch the leather
@Beer_Dad19759 жыл бұрын
Bruno Oliveira Really depends on the leather and how well it's maintained. The NSX would I imagine have really decent quality leather, and this guy clearly looks after his car. Even the cheapish leather in my Ford is holding up well after 6 years and I also do the foot thing - I clean and condition it about once a month using Meguires leather system. If you look after leather, it's really hard wearing - if you neglect it, it can get nasty quick.
@pseudonymlifts29 жыл бұрын
Bruno Oliveira I'm fairly OCD about this. My ideal strategy is to get in and out without even touching the side bolsters.

Also owned two Legend Coupes before driving my first NSX. I’ll never get how people praise those super long-throw plastic-y gearboxes. Loved those Acura’s, but never impressed with that switchgear. Give me a Mazda box any day. Owned 3 RX’s, 3 3’s, and a Miata. Truly superior shifters.

RegularCars I would like to know how much research goes into doing an episode of Regular Car Reviews. Or better, out of the overall work (containing filming the car, driving it, cutting the video and all the other stuff), how much of it is research so that you can formulate your narrative? Also, do you narrate the episodes freely, or do you have a script? Anyhow, awesome show. As I said earlier, it is a form of art (although this remark may be misplaced as a comment to a video that isn't an actual episode, but meh), and you *invented* it. People love it (so do I), and I think about how it would be possible to do this same format maybe in German, with cars that we have in Germany (very few US cars, but many European models and many Asian cars)...Although I clearly don't have the voice to narrate this, LOL.
