1994 f150 tilt steering column swap

Swapping out a standard not tilt column for a tilt column sourced from a scrapyard.

Everything was good with this video. UNTIL I realized I have a shifter cable still attached to end of column. This video is for standard transmission. Just be aware.

Thanks for the video. I am about to do this myself, as the column in my truck currently is WASTED. Why is your airbag light on after the swap?

It always came on intermittently with the truck. Unrelated to the column swap.

@@junkinjames6345 you'll check the code and get to the bottom of it I assume. I'm here because i have no airbag light at all, and i see a two prong connector that is disconnected in my steering column as well as a black wire that was capped off in electrical tape. i am trying get the light to come on and give me a code, do you have any idea why my airbag light would be disabled other than the bulb?

@@pivotmaster9556 could potentially be something wrong with the wiring or airbag module. Perhaps the airbag had gone off before and the replacement had a different plug or they were scared of it going off. If I've learned one thing from buying and selling used cars it's that people do crazy things for absolutely no reason. I can't tell you how many times I've found something like that, plugged it in and everything worked perfect

One question, can you use one from an automatic in a manual truck

You could, but you would have the automatic shifter hanging from the column. Could be a pain if you don't leave it in park or nuetral. It won't let you turn the key all the way off. You can remove the shift arm from the column and go that way. I've done that in the past.

If your donor column has a good ignition switch you don't need to swap it. I did swap the key switch so my keys would match the truck.

@@junkinjames6345 no, i meant the "ignition switch" that the actuator rod hoes into. Its called a slide swith. It sets on top of steering column...

@@JoseLopez-tb5mk yes that's what I'm referring to. No need to swap it if your donor column has a good one. I left them alone and just swapped the key switch.
