July 12, 1994 - This was the 65th renewal of the midsummer classic between the all-stars of the American League and National League from Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. The game resulted in the Nationals defeating the Americans 8-7 in 10 innings. It was the NL's first win since 1987.

This game is very meaningful to me for several reasons. 1) It was my birthday, and I vividly remember watching this game live on TV; 2) I'm a Montreal native and was a HUGE Expos fan; 3) 1994 was my last year playing little league baseball, coincidentally the team I played for was called the Pirates; and 4) the Expos were having a banner year and had the best record in baseball before the strike ruined everything. This was the beginning of the end for my Expos, who developed a lot of great players and gifted the rest of MLB when we traded them away or left through free agency. We might have lost our franchise, but no one can ever take away the impact the team had on the rest of the league. Thank you for uploading this wonderful souvenir of my childhood that will always be etched in my head and my heart forever.

This was the last truly great All-Star Game. Interleague play had not begun yet so these guys still rarely faced each other unless the players switched leagues. There was still a some league pride on the line. These days, the All-Star Game is unwatchable.

It is pretty cringey now too. Very gimmicky. And the games are too often low scoring. The pitching is on a whole other level now too lol.

Arguably the greatest All Star game ever played. And the greatest collection of baseball talent as well. And it just happened to be in Pittsburgh. It's been said that old Three Rivers Stadium, for what it was worth, had always been the house of miracles. Not to mention Three Rivers always seemed to come alive in prime time. Actually housed more championship teams than Yankee Stadium during its existence. Too bad the ‘94 season ended with the strike.

In a way I miss the idea of them. They’re part of my childhood in the 80s and when I fell in love with the game. But I will say that PNC is so much better. Hands down the best park in the game, and I’m a Dodgers fan.

Dad and I were in one of the last rows in the left field upper deck when the game started. When the winning run crossed the plate, we were a few rows back on the third base side. I was eleven, and he was forty-one at the time.

I was at this game...My uncle was security, got me & my father in last minute, for free. We lived 50 mins away in New Castle, Pa & was told if we weren’t there in 45 mins we couldn’t get in. My dads 1990 Honda Civic never went faster. We left right after the McGriff HR to tie it, to miss traffic. Listened on WDVE the whole way home. Will never forget that day for the rest of my life

Yeah Montreal was loaded that year for sure. That strike destroyed the Expos and baseball itself for a time. Then MLB looked away as Mcgwire and Sosa juiced it up and brought the fans back with the long ball. I enjoyed that season in 98. But I do miss players like Tony Gwynn, Don Mattingly, Kirby Puckett, Roberto Alomar etc...they didn't constantly strike out and swing for fences. They were real hitters. Ok, I gotta stop or I will go on and on forever. Thanks for uploading this. Good memories

Wese Batson I just love how everyone assumes the expos would have gotten to the World Series. I’m sorry but you don’t know that. Just because a team is stacked doesn’t mean they will win. The Indians had a better team.

Joseph G What I find interesting is most of these guys did not strike out too often. Today you look at the numbers and there's at least a few dudes who get over 200 strikeouts in a year. During this time it wasn't uncommon to see players with 400 - 600+ at bats, but only have around 50 - 100 strikeouts.

Not just that the NY Yankees had not been to the post season since 1981. NY fans had a bitter pill to swallow. Gwynn had a record to chase, Maddox had the ERA record, Griffey & Williams had the HR chase. AGH!!!!

The Expos had a talented squad with a 74-40 record. It's a shame, the strike took that chance away of them possibly winning a title. That stinks and sucks. I'm upset myself and I'm not even an Expos fan.

I agree. Also everyone waxes nostalgia about how special and important it would of been to the Expos and Montreal if they won it all. I belive IF 1994 had played out and Montreal went to the Series it would of been one of the lowest rated ever. People in the USA would of been tired of a third straight appearance by a Canadian team. And Montreal was hardly popular with a big coast to coast following. Toronto was more impressive with back to back championships and they quickly fell off the radar once play resumed in 1995. How would any love affair with Montreal play out differently?
