Wow, plato is turning out to be everything i’m missing in life. Really like it when its just Pierre talking, the dream stuff was really great but just gunning through the republic like this is where his chops really show. I wasnt sure if i was going to end up going through this whole playlist but this lecture made up my mind for sure. Hope my comments are appreciated, there will be many more till the end of this year!

I'm having fun climbing the same steps as you did on this playlist and reading your comments, don't know yet if you did the whole climb but I would enjoy if we could share at some point seeing where you at, for this is a lonely one, not many others on that incredible wisdom, a shame.

Greatest teacher I've ever witness, even while dealing with the student questioning, never did he send him to books but rather displayed true knowledge by application of the wisdom that he's teaching, definitely not an imitator.

I’ve seen many of these lectures too, and believe me, there is NOT a single “university” professor in philosophy in academia today that can touch Pierre Grimes in Platonic and Neoplatonic thought. Dude truly knows his stuff and gives his audience a truly comprehensive view of what Plato was truly getting at in his dialogues and anyone who has ever attended high school or college can immediately tell the difference. He’s exactly correct when he states that the “spiritual” doctrine in platonic dialogues are sadly neglected in college philosophy courses today. A master teacher no doubt.

Thank you God for putting out all these videos. The rediscovery of platinism is truly the key to our success as a human race. To quote Pierre

Training for the Philosopher King. This as a fascinating dialogue to read, it can be found in the Republic 520d-541b, a mobilisation for war between Socrates and the establishment, bastards, swinish beasts he calls them. As Pierre rightly says the Socratic liberal arts sometimes referred to as mathematical studies are the complete antithesis to the studies normally taught as liberal arts. What are “liberal arts” the normal teaching of these arts are the preparation which attaches to the materialistic world of ambition, enjoyment of pleasures appetites etc. Prometheus stole theses arts from Athena therefore by participating in this act we are chained from our liberty, as it is a crime to Athena. The foundation for Western educational development is based upon normal liberal arts known as the study of humanities which were originally prescribed by Isocrates the counterpart to Socrates. Isocrates advocates Democratic rule (rule of the multitude) which is really just a collective of tyrants all seeking their ambitions, pleasures, gains by ruling the weaker. The training of the Philosopher King is for the smaller rational part of the soul to rule this multi-headed tyrannical beast. Socrates refutes this Isocratic chaining education and proclaims; this to be the downward progression of the multitude, therefore repent, turn around (metanoia) look up to the brilliant light of being; for eternal life. Solid Geometry: to my mind this is “Wisdom”, Lady Philosophy needs to be “charmed” she is in rags and tatters due to the Isocratic controlling bondage. The state of wisdom is achieved without the aid of the senses Rep 532a and Phaedo 79c-d. Both the Phaedo and the Republic are a journey from Hades (material treasure house) to Heaven, being born again, liberated from the womb of the cave. The two opposing sciences (arts); Socrates in some abstract way represents movement or motion upward, Isocrates is the opposite movement downward. (Inferred from the Cratylus; iota “I” is indicative of “imitative motion” therefore a copy or copyist (tyrant). R or rho is movement/motion). Motion: simply this dialogue represents the science of breath, Socrates inspiration breath upward forces (Prana) and Isocrates expiration breath downward forces (apana). Apollo the archer shoots on target, get the chest movement right and you will sin no more. Prana when turned upward is the King of the five pranas, the downward prana is called apana responsible for our ablutions, in pranayama this is turned around to Prana. Notice there are five mathematical studies and five states only one of which is outstanding, (Rep 445d). Soul is life force, Prana is life force they are both breath, wind, motion. The upward and downward pranas are colliding which is a violent aggressive force consistent with Manipura Chakra (city of jewels - Hades) envisaged as a Ram force. Notice in the allegory of the cave when the prisoner returns, the inmates greet him with violent aggressive actions. The Socratic liberal arts are Yoga without a doubt. Finally, I find this observation interesting the liberating studies of Socrates are referred to as helpers, assistants or handmaidens in the antistrophe of turning around the soul, if we spin the idea they become “the angels”. Thanks Pierre

I cannot bare the felt tip scribbling... it offends my soul. Use chalk on a blackboard please. I studied Plato at university. I knew it was an illumination of the divine. The only other philosopher I considered wise was Kierkegaard.
