1995 F-150 Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement

I successfully replaced the ignition cylinder! I had to mess with it a lot to try and find the lock pin with a drill bit. I couldn't find the pin, then tried to take off the cover under the steering column by taking out the three screws. I couldn't get it off so i tried trying to push the pin through the hole with a screwdriver. After poking and pulling for awhile it finally came out. I noticed that there was a small piece of metal poking out of the hole that I could push in and it would fold out again. I then pushed in the new ignition cylinder in (the small metal thing folded in), jumped the car, ran it for awhile, drove it around and then shut it off and started it a number of times. Success! Thanks for the video. Oh, this is what I wanted to say in the first place. You now have 2 new keys for the new ignition cylinder. These keys don't fit the doors of the truck! Before the replacement, one key both opened the doors and started the car. Now, one key starts the car and another key opens the doors. I freaked out when I tried to open the door of the truck with the new cylinder key and couldn't. I felt really stupid for not thinking of this, even though this wasn't mentioned in any of the videos that I watched on youtube. I thought that I would have to hire a locksmith to make new door keys because I threw away the old keys. Luckily, I had another spare door key for the truck. Whew!!! I'll have to have a couple of copies made and will have to use one key for the doors and another to start it.

I just got a new ignition and played with it right in the parking lot then read the instructions that say not to play with it but i was able to set the lock pin back to installation position thanks to ur video. Thanks man it really helped

Doing mine, I have it in, I can crank it but no luck turning it off, the guy at the auto store did mess with it so idk if he messed it up, but it was the same thing with my old ignition lock, would be able to crank but can’t turn the truck off

That might me more electrical than the switch itself.

You could probably call a locksmith, and have them remove the old key and make a new one. I don't have many locksmiths in my area. I called the dealership about it and they were wanting about 450-500 for that job. So I went the cheap route and just replaced the lock cylinder. At the same time since the key was broke off inside of the cylinder. I was able to start it by sticking a screwdriver in the keyhole and turning it on. But it was my wife's truck, and she had me replace it.

That's odd. I would pull it back out then try to remove it. Maybe something in your column is keeping it from releasing to the off position.

Sorry I just seen this. That's tricky, if you can't get it with a magnet. You can try to heat a hot glue stick with a lighter and put it over the hole see if it'll hold the broken key enough to pull it out.

Hello, any idea what kind of Gremlin my 95 F-150 5.0 5 speed may have? I have an intermittent problem, truck will sometimes start, no problem. Cycle key couple times it will get a no spark/no fuel pump prime. It’s been doing it for a month or so. Fuel pump, distributor, tank selector switch were changed, fuses, relays, and inertia switch are checking out good. My ignition key is sloppy. Great video, I plan on changing ignition anyway since you made it look easy. Thanks!!

I know this video is three years old, but maybe you can help me anyway. The ignition cylinder in my 94 F150 seems to be jammed. I can't get it to twist. As I can see from your video, it looks like I'd need to twist the key to "On" or "Run" before pulling the old cylinder out. Any ideas on how to accomplish this with a cylinder that won't turn in the first place?

Sorry it's been over a week, I'm rarely on the KZbin app. My only guess is that it's locked from the steering wheel. Have you tried turning the wheel harder while wiggling the key? If that doesn't do the trick, I'd say the only other way is to drill it out.

That is helpful, but is NOT an ignition switch. That is a key cylinder, NOT a swtich. The switch is down the column. Fix or clarify your video title.
