I own a 456M for 13y now and I can only agree to the comments given in this marvelous video. It is superb in all aspects of drivability, steering, ride, performance and on top of that the music this V12 makes. Combined with the manual gearbox a masterpiece. Any dislikes? The brakes, they do the job in daily or fast driving but cannot handle heat during a track day. In summary: it is and will not be for sale :)

This car is so beautiful. This one passed my memory. I've always liked the 550 Maranello and 355. I love the pop-up lights. My other favorite is the 1st gen Nsx with pop-ups. What a lovely review of one of the most under-rated Ferraris. Swapped my 1995 F355 Berlinetta for a 2000 model 456GTM (not the manual - sorry but I just love really large capacity autos, have owned a couple of 928s and I just think the auto suits this sort of grand-tourer). My wife never really got on with the 355: too red, too low, too loud etc.. She actually likes the colour (blue TDF) and even said it was 'quite comfortable'...haha, happy wife, happy life. I've only ever had the little V8 Ferraris so this was quite a change. Having said that, boy, what a motor! Compared to the screaming V8 in the 355 it's like a turbine! So smooth, but still has loads of torque and a decent amount of speed. I'm also a very lucky boy, owning a 1996 Porsche 993 Carrera for those B-road blasts! Cheers from a (bloody cold) Otford, Kent, UK.

Currently in the final stages of snatching a 456M GT from a dealer in France. They are very affordable, if you can deal with the slightly higher maintenance costs and the very very very thirsty engine. What most people don't know: Ferrari Finance offers balloon financing for all used cars. Literally what made me finally pull the trigger. Planning to use it all year round for road trips. Can't freaking wait!

Excellent description of a wonderful car. I am just about to finish a total restoration of a 1994 456GT in exactly these same colors. Engine, 'box, clutch, suspension, full windows out paint job, everything. It will be up for sale shortly as my hobby is more the working on, and bringing to perfection, of a car rather than just owning it. May start a new project after this one. I found the 456 a great car to work on. It's a complex car, but the engineering is exquisite and very well thought out. Everything that needs servicing can be serviced, and is accessible, but nothing can be done quickly. Just many steps to take for every job, which partly explains the astronomical maintenance bills some owners complain about. It's also incredibly strong and build to last. Obviously I hope the prices will continue to rise... IMO the Blu LeMans color is absolutely stunning. Depending on light it varies between bright light blue, via purple to almost black.

@Theodore Frazier The 456GT is just a beautiful car, but my youngest daughter is now ~5'8" so the Maserati Grandturismo's rear seats afford more room and A/C for her. Both are Pininfarina designed Ferrari engined cars (V8 and V12) with similar power. The Maseratis are also currently more affordable. My 2011 Coupé with 13k miles I picked up for $37,500 USD, so have a look, it may suit you.Good luck either way.

Fabulous car and good to hear about practicality. However, a few oddities: why drive a GT down fiddly unclassified roads? It's a car for fast sweeping A-roads surely! Also, it has a glorious v12, surely you could rev it to something approaching the red line to sell us on the sound! It needn't be driven sideways but some slightly more spirited driving would be appropriate. Showing the boot would be sensible if one of the major attractions is practicality and 4-up travel. However, thanks for previewing an enticing motor!

It’s interesting that in the last few weeks quite a few videos have popped up promoting the 456. For as long as I can remember this was considered the poor man’s Ferrari as they were undesired and therefore relatively cheap. The last pretty Ferrari. The obsession with the manual is weird but I guess you need to appeal to the "proper manual" dorks. I'd rather have it in automatic. Suits the character of the car better.
@richardjones24683 жыл бұрын
Some of us like the tactility of a well engineered gearshift, as well as the control and total immersion in the actual driving experience. Autos are for convenience within dense urban traffic environments. Ours is a manual and I wouldn`t even consider an auto, that`s for poseurs, the lazy or the disabled.
@marino80343 жыл бұрын
@@richardjones2468 Right. A "Proper driver", no doubt. Ha!. Manuals are fun, but again, I don't think it suits the look and character of this car. It's big, heavy and comfy. There is a good reason why Ferrari offered an auto box in the first place. I think you'll find that lately the biggest 'posuers' are the ones droning on about manuals
@richardjones24683 жыл бұрын
@@marino8034 This car shrinks around you and can be driven as aggressively as you like or as relaxed as you like. It is very versatile and is similar in feel to a Daytona but lighter and more agile to drive. Remember this car was aimed at the very affluent being the most expensive at the time in Ferrari`s lineup. It was intended to follow in the way of the past front (mid) engined V12`s with rear tranaxle and be either a relaxing Grand Tourer or a road blaster unlike the V8 rear mid engined cars. Depending on how you forsaw it being used and your driving style it was well suited to ahving an automatic transmission or the 6 speed manual. That it succeeds in being either or is an indication of its cleverness in design but it is most certainly in manual form a very satisfying road burner. We are lucky in having a rear mid engined V8 as well, plus I`ve had a Tessarosa previously so believe I am well able to judge.

While I agree with your points on aesthetics and practicality, I strongly disagree with you on the maintenance part. Sure for most small jobs it is fine and yes you will be paying a bit of brand tax for parts and labour, it is a Ferrari after all. However, repairs larger than small maintenance requires the engine to come out as a result of how the gearbox and prop shaft is configured and is very costly. If you are the unlucky one to buy a Friday car, you are going to bleed money.
