Thanks for your video. The sound from my mp3 player turned out better than the radio. Greetings from Russia.

Definitely gonna try this on the 88. FM Modulators have way too many problems from RFI in the city. Hard wired is the way to go. Thanks for the great video!

Done mine today. It wouldn't work with a dummy tape but works with a regular tape. Thanks for the video.

Than you Jeff for showing us how to do this. Mine came out great ! Now to get the radio down in place . It doesn't line up with the top cover about 1/4 inch to high. I think the wires need to be stuffed down inside ! Gene

It's a real pain to get the radio back in. The power cable for the radio always gets in the way.

Jeff, great video--some of us are visual learners, so even if the source is elsewhere, your video is really helpful. I'm looking at a used 1500 SE and one concern is the audio system. This tells me I have a viable solution on the cheap while I figure out how to completely modernize the system. Lots of life left in these older 'Wings, but it would be nice to have a better upgrade path for the amenities!
@luc1ferblack8 жыл бұрын
+John Overbaugh a full modernization would be awesome but a massive pain in the neck because a small amp by itself would not cut it as all the controls for cb and radio route from separate locations to this unit. even if you could do it you would have to buy a boat panel to run it as waterproofing would further be a issue. i would like to pull the cb display and replace it with my 660 satnav permanently bolted inside the fairing however trying to incoperate all the different controls would be a headache
@tjernagel8 жыл бұрын
+Jason Leo I added an AMP in my left bag, EQ in the top trunk and upgraded all four speakers. For a set of 4" speakers it's sounding great. Only thing I would do different is to mount the AMP and EQ on the right side. It will be a pain in my side when I change my rear tire or brakes...
@jasonleo94368 жыл бұрын
+Jeff Tjernagel nice. i was thinking about removing the whole unit and putting in a amp but i think the mute and volume controls are great where they are. i use earbuds because i prefer quality of sound which i would lose at higher speed but for slow i bet yours sounds amazing
@tjernagel8 жыл бұрын
All my controls operate normally. I wouldn't want to move them either. I'll put together a short video showing the installation of the AMP and EQ in the next day or two.

Without actually trying it I would have to "assume" the audio channel still works. If after it's wired up, and a "fake" tape is installed the audio channel would come on still allowing you to use it with "whatever" your going to use. Maybe others can provide a better answer but the only thing I would know to do is try it and see what happens. The tape doesn't have to spin, the switch just has to be made which is what happens when the tape is installed.

if you have to have an cassette might as well stick to the cassette adapter, seems to work fine on my 97 GL 1500

So just to save you all some time or if you are mechanically challenged. In 2017 you can get a tape deck adapter that has a bluetooth unit inside the tape at walmart for 14 dollars. It is rechargeable and will connect to your phone w/o any wires. It is made by Black Web. I use this in my 99 GL1500.

I also have a 95 GL1500 SE (Canadian Edition) and I have the stereo out of it right now and I want to add an Aux input to it. My board is a little different than the one on RangeWeb, it's probably the same as yours. I'm looking at your video and it's hard to tell exactly where the ground is soldered on, is the solder point under the hot glue?

Thanks for the video, I have a question though about your mounts I'm having a terrible time finding a cup holder and phone mount for my 93 Aspencade you know the typical handle bars on a gold wing. What kind do you have or any suggestions?
@tjernagel5 жыл бұрын
For big cups on my '95 I've always used the Beverage Butler drink holder. There are two different sizes. If I don't have a big drink I simply put my 16 oz coffee cup in the left compartment. I fold one side of the cover down so the cup fits right in and doesn't move around. I'll take a picture and post it somewhere out there where you can see it. wingstuff.com/products/2084-beverage-butler-motorcycle-drink-holder

Gene Fuller I filed a dispute and will make a new video with the one clip muted... I'll have to dig up the original files. The KZbin cops pulled the audio because I play a very small portion of a song to show everyone how it works. We live in a too PC world. This is stupid... I still have the same bike. It's got around 111k miles on it and it's doing great.

Hey Jeff, excellent video for us GL1500 owners. I was wondering if you might have a way to tie into the microphone system on the intercom in the same way? I was thinking about using this: www.headsetbuddy.com/pc-headset-to-smartphone-iphone-adapter-dual-3-5mm-to-single-3-5mm/ to break out the mic from the phone, then tie the intercom mic into it for full cellphone capability. Do you know of where that tap might be?
@tjernagel6 жыл бұрын
It's might be possible but don't know until it's tired. I uploaded the GL1500 wiring and headset schematics to google photos. I haven't done it but it might be possible. It would be a science project. I'd rather buy a new Wing but they are too pricey for me! :-) Briefly looking at the schematic I'm thinking connector C137 is where I would tie in. It's located under the left fairing pocket. photos.app.goo.gl/HJNYfgWnr2x23obu8
@stevesmith99086 жыл бұрын
I was thinking along the same line. I have no real use for the CB, and was thinking of grabbing the mic input to it. Probably need to deal with powered vs passive microphones though.
@stevesmith99086 жыл бұрын
And C137 would only work for the driver, and not include the passenger. That's why I was thinking of the MIC feed from the Intercom to the CB....
@tjernagel6 жыл бұрын
Looks like the GL1500 mic is passive. The schematic isn't showing power... I'd put a multimeter on the driver mic wires to see if there is power. The shield is for EMI interference.
@rudyzzr11 жыл бұрын
involvement is unnecessarily complicated. Simply divide the three wires between the connectors CN102 and CN302 (GND, L and R out) and insert them between the expandable jack socket so that when inserted jack disengage the radio module ..
