Why is spark plug replacement recommended at 30 k mi / 2 yr. for 1996-2000 Honda Civics by the owners manual? I thought most vehicles' spark replacement is recommended at 100-120 k mi. Is it because the manual is assuming factory plugs that may be copper (vs. iridium)? Do these vehicles run hotter / dirtier or something?
@NutzAboutBolts3 жыл бұрын
Yes, copper is different from iridium tips, so it wears out quicker. These vehicles equipped with copper as oem. Newer models are iridium plugs.
@tomchien76923 жыл бұрын
@@NutzAboutBolts Thx! So, if replaced them with iridium plugs, should I be safe to use them for closer to 100 k mi, assuming I don't notice any bad spark plug symptoms in the meantime?

@@tomchien7692 I’d stick with copper plugs. It’s runs better for your car since it’s oem.

It happens over time since it’s made out of rubber. When we change the spark plugs, we recommend changing out the wires out as well. It’s recommended to change out spark plugs, wires and plugs if your vehicle has a distributor.

I am having a problem pulling the plugs. I have the correct size for the plugs, but my sockets don't fit. None of them. There is an extra little metal sleeve inside the spark plug hole that prevents me from putting in the socket. Anyone know why or how to fix this? I can't pull the sleeve out or anything. Also tried a 14mm, a 16mm, and now I'm looking for a thin wall socket, but am having an issue locating one locally.

You can use a 5/8 socket without the sleeve to break it loose, then use the one with the sleeve to pull the spark plug out

Is it okay to use a 1/2 inch drive torque wrench on replacing a spark plug with proper setting? Or i must buy a 3/8 inch drive or other torque wrench?

The 1/2 torque wrench has too much torque. Spark plugs are 14 ft lbs of torque so a 3/8 torque wrench is good for it.

Get an extension bro and put the plug in and then hand tighten it with the extension as hard as you can win the hand bc your hand doesent out out much torque. Then get a wrench and only go 1/4 of a turn!!! Remember torque wrenches are cheap and new heads are not

Per NGK. Never use anti-seize on the plug threads. NGK Plugs already have a factory coating to prevent it. You can make it actually seize with that extra coating. FYI
