Make more videos for the impala please ☹️ it’s helps a lot my 96 impala fuel gauge is always showing full, I ordered a new sending unit and your video helped a lot on how to change it. I can’t wait for the part to arrive to put it in and I hope it fix my fuel gauge issue. Thanks

What color is your '96 SS? I really wanted the dark red, but in December of '96, there weren't a lot to choose from.

Where you get the fuel pump from?

How many volts should you have going to the pump, without the car running? ( with the ignition key in the on position ) I'm getting 8 volts.
@mrimpala62918 ай бұрын
Good question. I want to say 12.6 volts. I'll be working on the car this weekend. I'll try to remember what I get at the plug at the tank.
@mrimpala62918 ай бұрын
You do need 12 volts. On mine, the connector at the rear bumper, I had a good 12.3 volts. I need to drop the tank, again, and test the voltage at the pump. You do need 12 volts at the pump. If you have 12 at the bumper then the wiring from the bumper to the pump needs to be replaced. Check the ground from the pump to body. I've read that is the culprit sometimes. Good luck.

What about your gas gauge? Did you have any issues with yours?
@mrimpala629110 ай бұрын
No issues with the sender, but if you had issues with yours, test it to make sure it is good or bad, don't just replace it. But, mine is fine.

My fuel gauge was just fine. The car didn't start. Very low fuel pressure.

whats the bolts called that goes on the screws on the lid

the 6 bolts you loosen up at 19:20

Fuel pump attachment nuts. The fuel tank is studded, the 6 are part of the tank. The pump gets dropped in and the nuts secure it. I don't know if I answered your question. I don't know the screw or stud part can be purchased separately. Just don't break them. If you, still have questions, or if I have misunderstood you, please let me know.

@@kurtmarceb7624 i got a 89 caprice and change my fuel pump but lost them 6 nuts, wanted to know if there’s a specific size or name of it. looking to see where i can find them

I'm surprised an '89 Caprice has a setup like that. We had one. I thought it had the ring that you tapped to hold the sender/pump in. Regardless, I don't know the exact name, nor do I know the size. I don't even know if they would be metric or SAE threads. It has been almost 20 years. If you have a die set, try and slowly thread sizes that look close. If you find one that fits, write that size down and make a run to the parts store.

That long crank with a brand new pump indicates a possible failed regulator. It shouldn't take that long to fire up.
@mrimpala629110 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I did replace the regulator, though I was thinking about replacing it again. Maybe a bad new part.

I think what's happening is the pump needs to prime and remove air from the system. I decided to comment because I have to change out my fuel pump because the shop wanted 1100 dollars (which is insane). I thought it would be $600 or less. Good video and good comment because I will look out for the same noise (or possible symptoms).

Turn off the damn music in the background so you don't have to struggle to hear what you're saying.

I can't do anything about it now, sorry. I won't be listening music in the future.

If I remember correctly, I got both the pump and the whole assembly(which doesn't include the pump) from RockAuto. Watch my second video on the fuel pump fix. As you could probably tell, it didn't run good. I fixed that.
