@@robjohnson8861 Rob, if you want to say Nebraska is not great anymore - I'm with you. If you want to say they weren't great in the 90's you are a total idiot, the type of idiot that can't be cured. the 1995 Nebraska team was among the all time greats. Also, Nebraska's legendary run was even greater than it seemed. If not for a series of calls that went FSU's way in the 1994 Orange Bowl, Nebraska's winning streak would not have been 26 but 39...........THIRTY NINE!!!!!!!!!!!!..............and they would have won three straight national titles. As it stands they did win three in four years - 1994, 1995, and 1997.

We had Drunkenmiller here in S.F. I liked him a lot better than Detmer, and wanted the club to keep him and let him develop, but I didn't have any company.

In order to secure tickets to the national championship game, Nebraska fans bought packages before the Big XII Championship. After all, Nebraska was 10-1, with the lone loss coming to a very hot Arizona State team on the road early in the season. Texas was 7-4, and coach John Mackovic was on the hot seat. When Nebraska lost to Texas, fans didn't go out in large numbers to buy Orange Bowl tickets. They even say at the beginning of the broadcast that few Husker fans were in attendance. While I wouldn't say Nebraska had no interest in the game, they undoubtedly were disappointed to be playing there.

The top receiver Brendan Holbein had only 23 catches. That would have placed him as tied for 7th in touches as a running back. Holbein and Vedral had decent hands, but they weren't especially quick, and at 5'9" and 5'11" respectively, they weren't the types of receivers who could spread the field and battle for catches.

Julian Smith yes, and 1993 was when Nebraska knew they had turned the corner and could compete with those Florida teams! 1993 was such a heartbreaker, I knew both Trev Alberts and the place kicker Byron Bennet. Made the game even more difficult to digest! Trev played great with an injured arm and poor Byron shanked what would’ve been the biggest made field goal in Husker history! I miss the 90’s! Some great memories
