I have a 1986 Evinrude 130, the procedure in the Clymer’s manual for replacing the thermostats in this model is non-existent. I’ve done a lot of work on my own boats and I couldn’t even identify the thermostats on the 130 without this video (not the same thermostats as the 130, but it put me in ballpark…,) and another that cinched it. Thank you, you saved me a trip to the shop and probably at least $250…

Great video I just bought a 18 ft project boat with a 96 115 ocean pro the motor runs well but changing the thermostats would be a great preventative maintenance project before the summer . I just changed the starter, solenoid and plugs . Cheers

I just bought thermostats! Doing them next. I wasn’t going to a video on it but I think I will now. Pretty easy but at least people can see what they are getting into. Thanks for the comment!

I was surprised when you said the gap was .045...I just checked my 1997 factory manual for the same motor and it says .030...for the QL78YC champions. But in any case, nice video!! very informative
@bobbygfl8 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I don't actually have the manual and googled the gap. Hummmm. The motor runs fine so I'm going to leave it but I bet you're right.

i have the same motor but my plugs are QL78YC and gapped at 035 ,was wondering if you made a mistake on the plug number and gap? tia
@bobbygfl7 ай бұрын
That is possible. But I have been using this plug and this gap for over 25 years with no issue. I cannot remember if the first time I had the engine serviced this is what they did or if this is what came with the engine. But that’s what I’ve been using.

Question: is this procedure the same with a 150 Johnson Oceanrunner. I have one that probably could use some freshening up

Should be

I like your videos. Thanks. I have twin 1995 150 HP Evinrude Ocean Pros...same maintenance as your 1996 Evinrude engine?

Yes the same. Thanks!

Prob a stupid question but what was that you put on the spark plugs before putting them back in the motor?
@bobbygfl8 жыл бұрын
Anti-seize or grease. I lube the threads with anti-seize which is a product that will enable me to get them out if they rust. Grease seems to work just fine also.
