I bought my BMW Z3 1997 in 2013 with 140,000 miles on it. It has been my daily ride for 5 years, for personal reasons I travel very often to Ensenada, Mexico to Fresno, California, through all SoCal, so my car just reached 300,000 miles! In this time I have only had to do the regular maintenance of course, change the air filter, a hose, the starter and the battery but that's pretty much it, never a major repair, it has never let me down. People still gives me thumbs up when they see the car, it is a fantastic underrated ride

I m an orig owner of a 97 z3, still driving it. I have the orig windbreaker installed. I drove in -20 top down with windows up, did t feel the winter at all. I drove in the rain top down, as long as I kept the speed at 50 km/h or higher, not I drop of rain came in. btw, I just changed out my orig spark plugs from '97 , yes, you heard me right, just 9 months ago.

I had a '97 2.8 Z3, same colour. When I got it, it had been fitted with 19" Hartge wheels which looked wonderful. However, the thin tyres gave me real problems with tramlining and I swapped them out for standard wheels and tyres which gave a more comfortable ride. I loved the retro look and did some long trips around Europe as well as cruising around my home counties in England. The only things I didn't like were the hard ride (not much padding in the seat - you could put your back out riding over a cigarette packet) and it didn't like corners. What made up for it was dropping into third and flooring it! Lovely engine.

This car was so under appreciated and overlooked. Much much more comfortable than expected. The seats are luxury comfortable with a. Sporty suspension that is actually more pillowy than expected.

Common issues are that the rubber vacuum lines and coolant hosing and expansion tank need replacing due to the rubber and plastic disentigrating.

I daily a 96, love it. The only gripe with the 96 model is the low front bumper. BMW changed it b/c drivers would hit it on curb stops which the prior owners daughter did on mine. Good review.

I've owned my "first car" 1988 E30 325i sedan for 23 years. I was 16 when I got it. I currently have to daily drive my 2016 228i luxury pkg convertible (25k miles only) but when the urge comes to drive the E30 I enjoy driving it just as I did when I was in high school but if I drive it more than one consecutive day all I do is get annoyed due to the failing electronics, the non working heater, the non working a/c (since 2004,). Regardless of the car's restoration and pristine look..it has potential for $thousands of dollars a year to upkeep at this point. I'm also the stage in life where I'm looking to purchase my first home and the E30 is just a non necessary car. I'd rather have a Z3 with similar mileage (E30 has 100k) and a heater and a/c that works! A Z3 is looking like the perfect less of a headache vehicle to acquire now! Please Do chime in with thoughts..

Having driven both, The Z3 isn’t as fun as an E30 to drive hard. The Z3 is more of a cruiser (unless your talking M) but it Is still great fun to hoon down a backroad. If you can sacrifice they dynamics of the E30, Z3 is definitely a lower maintenance option but still an old BMW so be prepared to spend some money. But that’s the case with any old car

Have the Z3 non M coupe with 220,000 miles on it and have not had any problems. People don't mention the non M coupe too much but it is a great car. I can't imagine the power of the M version. I have to watch roadster reviews to learn about my car. There are no Non M z3 coupe reviews.

In Canada, we are importing low mileage Z3's from Japan. I am looking at a 1997 with 24,000KM (15,000 miles) for $10G CDN . Most of the used Z3's from japan have less than 60,000 miles, and are like new because of the Sticky Inspection system that has to be passed in Japan to be able to drive it on the road. In Canada, we can import cars 2003 and older.

All 4 of these Z3's were LHD ! Google: Velocity cars, Vancouver BC. Lots of the German stuff from Japan is LHD. 2 of these Z3's had 2.2L 6cyl engines

@@CarsandComments there are car dealers in British Columbia that import Japanese made cars which are mostly RHD. The Z3s that are imported into Canada from Japan are all mostly LHD and are really low mileage cars. Clean underside as well because they don't spread salt on the roads in winter weather. I wonder if these Z3s are imported by Japanese BMW dealers from the factory in South Carolina. Really nice cars especially the 1.9l manual are such a blast to drive.

Not really actually. You can pick up a really nice one for under $10,000. An M Roadster can be had for around 15 if you shop smart.

This was over 2 years ago. I wonder if he's hit puberty yet? OhmyGOD that girlyvoice was killing me to hear. I literally muted after 3 minutes and only unmuted when there was a shot of the car from the outside, as I hoped to hear the engine.
