Not too long ago I test drove a modded 2005 "Saabaru" 92-x Aero (WRX). Stage 1 tuned w BC Racing coilovers. An absolute performance machine that was a thrill to drive. Unfortunately though there were too many red flags w the car. What a bummer. So I bought a 2009 GTI. The GTI is better for everyday driving, but the modded Aero was like an STI, so it was twice the car. Both great cars, but they are different.

I always viewed the fiesta st as fords civic si a cheap fun car. Definitely not fast but definitely fun. The Focus ST on the other hand is a different kind of beast. Catback, intercooler and a tune and I’m already keeping up with cars worth 20-30k more than my car AND beating 5.0s stop light to stop light

I'm considering getting either a Fiesta or Focus ST. I owned a 2016 Focus ST (ST3) for 3 years before trading it in on a 2017 Focus RS (that was re-engined with a brand new 2018 engine by Ford). Honestly I wish I just kept the Focus ST. There was nothing wrong with the RS, however honestly I found it was not as fun (or practical) to drive on the street as the ST. The RS was truly only fun for me if I was driving it at 8/10ths or more of what it was capable of either at autocross or track. Just carving up some twisties and throttling out, the Focus ST was more enjoyable (had a Stage 1 tune from FSWerks on it, made power delivery much more linear instead of all up front and a lot more torque). Fast forward to now, I have a 2007 4Runner that's my daily driver, winter, dog, and hauling vehicle and a 2021 Mustang Mach 1 Handling Package for my fun car. I'm thinking about a Fiesta or Focus ST as a 3rd car mainly as a daily driver so I'm not using the 4Runner as much (pretty awful MPG and it's big and heavy) as well as a fun joy ride vehicle to take out with the dogs, and a fun car to drive in the winter I don't care so much about (the Mach 1 doesn't see the winter roads). I know I really enjoyed the Focus ST, but I lot of people rave about the Fiesta ST. I don't really *need* the room since I have the 4Runner to haul when needed. Main concern is if the back seats would be too small for the dogs, but I think it'd probably be fine. Aside from that would mostly be concern over refinement, road noise, suspension bumpiness, how it handles freeways, etc. Most of the time it seems used, well spec'ed Fiesta and Focus STs in decent shape under 80k miles are pretty similar in price. If the Fiesta ST were much cheaper, it'd make it more appealing, but in my searching it's usually not.

Excellent review thank you. I can’t decide. I’m gonna have to test drive. I prefer the Fost looks , the fiST is too narrow and tall looking for me but I suspect I’d love the drive, I like gokart like cars. It’ll be my daily and I’ll have something old Japanese and rwd for the weekends, probably a 350z but my daily is on its way out so that will have to wait.

@@StreetrunnerYZF_R6 all depends on how well they’ve been maintained from what I’ve seen. My 1.6 focus has 115k on it and has never let me down. It’s been remarkably cheap to maintain. I’ll probably get the fiesta st but am waiting for one with fewer than 70k miles and full service history. There are plenty of them about so hopefully I’ll pick one soon.

For what it's worth, I can't even remember how many dozen people in all of the st/rs groups have talked about how they got rid of their Focus ST or their Focus RS and went back to a Fiesta ST because it's so much more fun to drive. They're all good cars, but man it's hard to beat that tiny, light, tail happy Fiesta

This was our car. We bought it in Ventura, California, at the German Autofeast. It was built in Washington State. We lived in Arizona at the time, and my husband stripped the entire interior and did all the interior work while there. The Wevo was also installed at that time. We have a book full of pictures documenting the entire build. We sold it in 2012 when we were in Arkansas. That was a mistake. That was a great FUN 911 we should have kept.

As bone stock straight out of the factory, the Fiesta ST is less than a second slower to 60mph than the Focus ST.. I got the 3-door version fiesta ST here in Australia and I heard they are 100 pounds lighter than the 5-door ones. I done 127000km from brand new now and it's still driven hard everyday. I do 5000km engine oil and filter changes tho.

Great review! it is nice to see the younger generation "get" what these very special air-cooled cars are all about, even older cars in general. People are obsessed with 0-60 times and other nonsense when they will probably never appear on a track where second matter. I will take "feel" and visceral rawness over new techy fast super car type any day.

hey man, i have a golf 7, gtd though, i've bought these bridgestone blizzak tires thinking they do a good job. well, my car can't handle half the snow in your video. they are inflated to recommended psi 2.4. should i lower to 2? what's your tire pressure? right now i'm slipping in all turns when going uphill, even at low speed. i think the problem is the car has too much power and even if i'm slowly hitting the gas, ice and snow can't handle it

I probably have one of the higher mileage Fists on the road at 112k and that’s with a 93 octane Cobb stage 1 tune since 60k miles and I drive it pretty hard. No real issues and to this day, for the past five years I always enjoy getting in this car and driving it. Definitely plenty of smiles per gallon with this little hot hatch. I can vouch the car is reliable if you maintain it and it is just so fun to drive, feels much faster than it is and what else could you ask for?? You can’t push these modern muscle cars like the Demon and such but you can push this one all day and not worry as much about going to jail. To top is off it gets 34 mpg on the highway even with the stage one tune. The only other car I really want right now in my budget is the new 86 and I really do like the new Miatas as well, preferably hard top.
