Wow.. I haven't watched your channel in about 7-8 years, I used to stick around for every room tour, unboxing, and computer review lol. After pretty much loosing interest in computers as a hobby after I began to go to school for it and then it becoming my career, my hobbies shifted more towards fixing up and working on cars too. I'm on a splurge of checking out old channels right now that I would religiously watch, just to see what everyone's up to. After forgetting about my old hobbies and owning and working on my 09 Civic Si for a couple years now and restoring a few other cars myself too, it's crazy to come back to this channel to see you working on and making videos of your project cars. I guess I'll have to stick around again lol. #Savethemanuals

Fantastic video series! You might want to replace or clean your EGR valve if it's idling strangely at a stop. My old Honda Accord burned a pretty significant amount of oil and the EGR valve was the culprit.
@accordinglyryan
@accordinglyryan 3 жыл бұрын
Seems the can of throttle body cleaner did the trick, it's idling fine now like I said in the video. I'll keep that in mind though as this one burns oil too.
@spottedtauren
@spottedtauren 3 жыл бұрын
A bad PCV valve is one of the leading causes of oil burn in Hondas. It only takes a minute to replace and is a $31 retail OEM part and $3 part for aftermarket. A bad PCV valve can also affect idle.

I know it’s a bit late, but I was wondering if you don’t have a doner car for the manual swap, what parts would you need to keep it CARB compliant to pass smog here in Cali? Would you still need the ECU from a MT Accord? Does the manual transmission have to be from the same year as the car you want to swap? Sorry for the bunch of questions. I want to swap my own Accord, but I’m kinda lost in the steps to keep it street legal from the conflicting info I see on the web.

So here's what I can tell you: I bought a running donor car for $1200. That covers the transmission, shifter, ECU, pedals, interior pieces, cluster + all the little bolts and brackets you won't think of. I chose to replace the clutch kit & flywheel, rear main seal, all engine mounts, radiator and hoses, and the VSS on the trans. All in all with fluids and everything I spent about $2500 doing this swap. You could do it a bit cheaper by forgoing replacement of certain things but I don't like to cut corners. I would also advise against trying to piece everything together, just find a donor car like I did. Life will be simpler that way

@@accordinglyryan I always wanted better brakes a 6th gear and a small supercharger to put 6 or 7 lb of pressure to get 40 or 50 extra pounds of torque.. without the hassle, heat and expense of turbo charging. However, no one makes real performance equipment for the f-23a1 engine. All of the cold air intakes exhaust systems and suspension modifications are junk that ruin the good stock handling and ride of the car.

@@accordinglyryan I always wanted better brakes, a 6th gear, and a small supercharger to add about 40 or 50 lb of torque without the expense and heat and hassle of turbocharging, however no one makes a supercharger or any serious speed equipment for the f23a1 engine. Almost all of the stuff on the market for that generation Accord ruin the handling and ride of the stock car. I can recommend Akebano asp465d super duty pads and Yokohama avid GT tires to fit on the stock rims ( which actually measure 6.5 x 15) for good overall four seasons performance. The car should pull 0 to 60 in 8 seconds flat with the car in proper tune with the tach hitting 6000 rpm in second gear. That as good as it gets. The other swap that makes sense and is about the same work as the conversion you did is putting a K24 A1 engine and six speed manual trans from a early Acura TSX in the sixth generation. That costs about 3 to 4 thousand and about 12 hours but will give serious sleeper performance. I also change the coolant every summer, factory says every other year, to keep water pump lubricated...it typically seizes and breaks the timing belt on this interference engine not belt failure. And makes the radiators last. Im on my third catalytic converter....that hurts.

@@larryordine7542 Yeah, agreed. This car isn't built for speed lol. I daily a 2017 V6 Accord Coupe, I don't need this one to be fast. Not to mention engine swaps like that may as well be illegal here in Cali because of the legwork involved to certify it and such
@larryordine7542
@larryordine7542 3 жыл бұрын
@@accordinglyryan it's legal if the car meets emissions standards for the donor car. A 2005 Acura is a bit cleaner than a sixth gen Accord. My 99 is a NY LEV same as California CARB. Your automatic may be a ULEV and still must meet that standard. The Cat is bigger and the hp a bit less.

@accordinglyryan
@accordinglyryan 3 жыл бұрын
Starting in 1998 Accords got immobilizers standard. I don't think Civics got it until 2001. You can't use the auto ECU on the 6th gen Accord, it'll be stuck in limp mode

@@accordinglyryan I’ve been into Honda’s for 3 years and I never heard of an immobilizer. What’s that do and where is it at?
@accordinglyryan
@accordinglyryan 3 жыл бұрын
@@mikeyjimenez6054 It's an anti-theft feature. There is a microchip in the key with a unique code in it, that communicates with the ECU (which also has this code). They have to match or the car won't start (in the 6th gen it disables the fuel pump specifically). It's so you can't just copy the physical key and steal the car. Basically every car made in the last 20 years has this

I probably spent around $2500 total. Running donor car was $1200, parts from the dealer were $600 (engine mounts, gaskets/seals, flywheel bolts, fluids, etc), clutch kit, radiator & hoses from RockAuto were $300. Probably a couple small things I'm forgetting. It can be done for cheaper but I replaced a lot of parts as a "while I'm in there"/preventative maintenance kinda thing.
@gavingunn

Ryan Gehret yeah im with you on the “while im in there” kinda deal haha. but i have a 2000 accord ex 2.3 and i want to swap it to manual only problem is i dont know to much about cars and idk where to go to get it done. i wish i knew how to do all this myself tbh
@accordinglyryan
@accordinglyryan 3 жыл бұрын
@@gavingunn Yeah it's a pretty big job. Aside from all the mechanical stuff, there is some wiring involved to make everything work like factory as well, so you have to have an understanding of wiring diagrams, circuits and such. Some custom fab work is required to mount the clutch pedal also. If you're not experienced I wouldn't recommend attempting it lol.
