Great video and insight. I have the 1998 Honda Accord EX V6 coupe. I purchased it recently and surprisingly, it only had 61,000 miles on it. It looks great still and drives like new! That’s unheard of for a car that’s been around 20+ years. You have a great attitude that has definitely contributed to your success. Best of luck to you!

U should be at 300,000 miles by now if ur still using it. If yes is it still running good so that I know once I reach that milestone I should start saving money to buy a new car.

Bought my '98 Accord EX V6 when it first came out: Black Paint/gray inside with all the goodies, from Lennertz Olds/Honda in Merrilville, IN, and then immediately drove the new car to Charleston, SC, where I still live. Still have it, son drove it to Clemson for 4 years. Then grabbed it away from him when he bought his own ,08 Accord V6. Now, at 23 years old, mileage is about 287,000. Today, putting a 4th set of CV boots on the original CV shafts, did replace rear shock/struts a few years ago, had entire car repainted due to failing clear coat, Had a new rebuilt trans at 240K miles, and recently replaced most of braking system with new parts. Did finally have to replace one front wheel bearing when it got noisy. Did almost all work myself. Since wife had oil replaced oil every 3000 miles for years, inside of valve train looked brand new at 250K when I replaced leaking valve cover gaskets. Heads have never been off engine, and has had two timing belt replacements (0ne by dealer, and other by with with help from Eric the Car Guy video I purchased). Get this: still has all 4 original window regulators, and radio is still working on original speakers. Not one crack on the dash. Most reliable car I have ever owned. Wish I could say the same for '97 BMW 528i I had: a constant repair nightmare for years, until I sold it when front suspension died for 2nd time. Your video makes me think I should maybe sell this car to a restorer as a sleeper restoration car. Paid $25K for a new car that has lasted 23 years, and I still drive it to Boeing every day.

I still have this same year/model accord (bought new), and now have it with 261,000 miles on the odometer. Very reliable car, head gaskets still original, just put third timing belt on it myself last week. engine is stone reliable, never touched the V-tech system (my '97 BMW 528i has had at least 10 times the reliability issues on the engine/suspension. I still have the original front C/V joints, though they are starting to complain on turns. Mine was black, and of course clear coat peeled at about 200K, so got it repainted. 1 rear wheel bearing went out a few years ago, and put new one on in about 30 minutes myself. Changed rear struts at 225K miles (completely gone south by then), and other than that, it is still a daily driver. I anticipate getting maybe another 40-50K out of it before engine might need serious work. Very powerful engine for this light body. Used to love to come up at stop lights when young kids had their 5.0 mustangs, and I would put the car in neutral, and rev the V6 and give them the sign to drag race just for laughs. No one in the world has the reliability record that Honda (and maybe Toyota) have when it comes to mid-size sedans. Your video above is spot-on - I think we paid right at about $25K for this one.

+Judy Brandt Great job doing the timing belt yourself! I can't remember even hearing about someone doing their own timing belt for at least 10 years. I remember when this car came out I asked openly "if you had to pick one car to last forever, what would it be?" A lot of people picked the Camry which was also a great car, but most people thought the new Accord was just about perfect. 18 years later, I think you've proven that it really is a great car that stands the test of time.

Phil, you have two of the nicest cars for the money that money can buy. You could almost certainly keep them for 10 years and more, then sell them for more than you bought them for. I'm always amazed that people will buy a common $40,000 car for invoice and feel smart because they bought it cheap and it only depreciated $32000 in 10 years while your two cars will last just as long and make money over time.

We got lucky, my wife bought the Ex 5 years ago @ 33k miles in mint condition after the elderly owner died. I bought the Lx after her mom gave up driving last year. I have a 2000 Sedan V6. Garbage transmission of course 4 times destroyed and had enough and did a 2003 Acura TL 3.2 Type-S 6 speed manual swap and she's very fast now. The 3.0 was decent but not that fast so that's why it got replaced as well :D

YES! Just make sure to get a buyer's inspection at the Honda dealer before you buy.

Only thing is the automatic transmissions in these accords with the V6 motors were junk I have a dark blue one with a 4cyl and it’s a loaded model runs great 230k miles 60k on the motor
@thefuzzypickle82775 жыл бұрын
Then the 4 cyl must not be as good lol we still have the original v6 engine on ours with 210k miles still hasnt been rebuilt and runs fine

Recklessly Arrogant It's hard to believe a 1998 Accord has 200 horsepower breathing out of dual exhaust pipes like a 1960's muscle car. Plenty of brand new cars are far less powerful.
