After 14 years of great rides, I had to sell my 01 Valk Standard in 2015 due to health problems. Was lucky enough to sell it to a good guy who babies his bikes as much as I did, and lives next door to a co-worker. So my co-worker keeps me up on how its doing. Listening to this video through my headphones was a trip back in time.

I am so stoked right now. I come from riding a Hayabusa years ago. Today, I just bought a 1998 Valkyrie touring model with hard bags in the same wine /cream color. It has less than 20k miles on it and all stock. I rode the bike home, about 35 miles, and was loving every minute. Thanks Red Hills of Tallahassee! I love the bike and didn't know there was such a cult following of these bikes, but I now see why, awesome!!

I bought a 1999 GL Valk with 18,000 miles almost 4 years ago it now has 39,000 miles on it. I tried to sell it for 8 months and it didn't even get a nibble so I put it back in my garage and now I'm glad it didn't sell. Its a joy to ride, there are plenty of muscle power bikes out there that have since been produced that the Valk can still run with. It's almost impossible to improve on that engine that delivers smooth dependable power so for me there's no need to upgrade I'm satisfied.

I've had three .... my last one was an interstate. The engines center of gravity is slightly higher than the wheels axle height that makes for the agility. ...They have individual header tubes coming off each cylinder... I cut 3 inches past the collection joint off the original stock mufflers and welded / grafted on Flowmaster stainless glass packs that I cut the front end off of . Relieved a ton of back pressure and changed the intake to K&N so it could breathe .... rejetted the carbs and put a Firestone Eagle car tire on the rear .... Instant response even at low rpm's . It was a beast before the mod's after it was a DRAGON ! Got old with bad knees an you have to be stout to move that lady around even on the flat. But I've had my day in the sun on a Valkyrie. It's a Goldwing on steroids. Those were the days

Great informative vid! My thoughts were completely mirroring yours when I thought of how much I miss my '99 Valk. Paid $4,150 for her the summer of '17 with only 39,000 miles on the odo! It was the fourth bike I've owned, and hands-DOWN my favorite bike I've ever ridden! When you mentioned Deal's Gap my heart sank 'cause that's where I came off her. By God's grace I wasn't hurt at all! The sheriff was flabbergasted to see I had no injuries! The bike? Not so much...She rolled at least 5 times and died by "1000 cuts". (She was still running when I got to her!) Long story short: after the insurance money ($5,800) came in, I was able to trade my '11 Chevy Cruze (GREAT car!) in on a '99 Torch Red 6-sp Vette with just under 33,000 miles on her, for $11,995 and keep $1,000 in my pocket! The catch was she was rear-ended and totaled out in a wreck in '06, and has a rebuilt title. But what fun she is to drive after spending almost $2,500 ironing out some of the suspension gremlins left over from the wreck. I'm sorely tempted to get onto another and go back for another try at the "Dragon". (I'll surely respect her a bit more if there is a next-time!)

Imported a 2001 Standard from Texas to UK 3 years ago. I've owned a lot of large cruisers over 47 years of riding, including VTX1800C, Triumph Rocket III Touring, and a Goldwing which I still own. Of all of them, the Valkyrie does it for me and I shall never sell it! Old school, it just ticks every box. Mine has 63,000 on it now so it's just warmed up/run in. Never had any serious issues, the carbs are perfectly set/synchronised and haven't been touched for over 3 years. A biker's bike.

Flat six means weight is low and this is why it handles so well. I rode mine for 14 years and I weighed from 155-175lbs. As a matter of fact I disagree with "not a first bike". I taught a friend to ride and he took the road test on mine and has never had an accident on the street since with multiple bikes of his own to include large cruisers to drag bikes on the track. Learn on the dirt and then get the street bike you want. Don't waste money on a small street bike to "learn" because you will not be happy with it for very long and bike are getting more and more expensive to be farting around with something you will not enjoy for very long. Remember, take your lumps on the dirt then get a street bike. This can and will save your life on the streets.
@Hubba_Bubba7 жыл бұрын

@POPPASHANGO6 жыл бұрын
My first bike was an 800 Intruder...I never heard anything about getting a small 250 or something to "learn" on. I respected the bike....I was very cautious...easy on the throttle and in no time I was very comfortable with it. I started riding with a group of hardcore Harley guys and they said, "Why did you get a small bike?" And I said it was a good deal...and they said I should have got a 107 which was 1746cc. And done the same thing and got the same results...just respecting the bike ..easy on the throttle and being cautious. I am 6'2" and 280. Looking back..that bike was too small. They said none of them started off on anything less than 1000cc. I tend to agree with starting small for certain people and even certain bikes. Sports bikes in particular because people tend to ride them aggressively and they are capable of delivering that aggressive note in an instant. But cruisers are a different style of riding. I am getting back into riding now after 20 years. This time I am going to take a safety course and I will end up on a 1300cc or more cruiser. But I am going to still follow that same format I did years ago on my first bike. Respecting the bike ..easy on the throttle and being cautious.

What about his warning about being an older rider. I'm 63 but in good shape. 6 ft 1 230 pounds. Previous owner was 5 10 and weighed 165 and he sid he had no problems handling it. He was selling it because he had shoulder problems. I haven't ridden it yet due to getting cycle license updated, have to take the 3 day class so I dont have to test out on the slalom (cone) test with that big ofa bike. The class let's you test on a provided smaller (250 cc) bike.

I'm picking up this exact bike tomorrow with a 2 hour drive home. Mind you, I've only road up to a 750cc and I'm a little nervous. Actually on the way home after making the deposit I felt dizzy thinking about the trip home when I pick it up. I've been riding for almost 10 years and I planned a country tour home avoiding interstates which has calmed my nerves as of now. Yesterday I viewed a Kawasaki Drifter 1500 and couldn't believe how light and balanced it felt compared to the Valkyrie. I believe this was due to a lowered seat height. Guys, wish me luck!
