Hey Ted, I have a Mercury 2.5 rx6,all of a sudden both my voltage regulators are getting Hot,too where they start smoking and melting the gel, and my tac, isn't working correctly, do you have any ideas for me to look at? I love your program, very informational.thanks.

Sounds like a short to ground. The tach is driven by the gray wire attached to one of the regulators. Remove the wires, disconnect the battery + cable and check for shorts to ground on the wires and the regulator posts to ground.

In replacing the voltage regulators, which side of the regulator faces the motor?

I've got a 1996 200hp BlackMax. I ran the boat just a little ways and stopped to fish. The cdi box was burning a hole in the center of it. It would still run but the center of the box is burned out. What do you think caused it? And do you think changing just the cdi box will fix it? Thanks for any help!!

Hey Ted. Just found your channel. Great content. Any vids on upgrading old merc 2L from rectifier to regulator rectifier. Problem is that my 1985 150Hp is overcharging and from what I can find this can only be fixed by adding a regulator to the charge system Thanks Pete

That 150 probably has a 16 amp max output stator so you could add one of these 20 amp regulator/rectifiers to it

Great video. Have the same engine, unfortunately has developed an overheating issue. Ive changed the water pump twice, thermostats, poppet valve, flushed and back flushed twice. In the process of removing the exhaust manifold to check for blockages. All bolts are out but the manifold appears to be stuck to the head. I'm so frustrated im ready to beat it with a sledgehammer. Engine runs really well otherwise

Is the alarm going off? Get yourself a cheap infared temp gun, run the engine with the covers off and when it gets hot see if one of the heads is hotter than the other, you'll know what side to attack then. could be a clogged water passage in one of the heads. Good Luck!

Mine is charging high at around 16 volts. I may have a bad regulator

Yes, that is the issue. If you have two regulators like this engine then disconnect one (the red wire) and run it again to see if it is still high. Then that one is the issue, do the same with the other ensure both have not failed
