In this video, I show how to repair a late 1990s Volvo power window swtich that has stopped working.

V70XC '02 - Driver window stopped working. Disassembled as you suggested. 2002 switch interior is newer different electronic circuitry than '98, as one might expect. However, I cleaned the tiny switch sensor and sprayed air - reconnected and YES ! it was back in working action. Thank you for this video. Surely saved me tons of time and money.

Can‘t believe it‘s so easy! Clearly a design flaw to be rectified in future!

Thanks for the vid 👍 I was able to fix my father's door window that wouldn't open nor close I really like the way Volvo ,Mercedes,and some BMW engineers designed switches like this that you can actually "service " and repair yourself ,can't really say that when it comes to most Japan crap cars other then Honda's and Toyota's, those Germans were ahead of there time !

I'm not sure if there was ever any engineering intent to have these be serviceable. I'm sure that even in these cases, the vehicle manufacturer would much rather sell the car owner a new part (much quicker and more profitable, I'd assume). It's just that in this case, the switch unit is so well built that it CAN be serviced. Also, I did own and drive a number of 1990s-era Subarus for about ten years. While not QUITE as well built as a German or Swedish car, those cars were well-engineered for the most part. Thank for watching.

Thanks for the video. I have a similar issue with my V70... these switches seem to be famous for bad contact. Hope this will take care of my problem.

I might have to replace the motor... cleaning is not doing it for me.

BEGINNING this repair now. pretty tough to separate the two halves of switch for me. not 5 minutes just for that. but nonetheless, thank you so much just for sharing the possibility of this diy, sir. i'm broke enough to save that $20, no matter the time here! you're a little out of focus, but i get the picture. [btw, if you ever blow a cam seal, check out some of my posts on other's videos regarding that.] and for the super cheap, some say that white vinegar will suffice for an electrical contact cleaner.

Thanks. I had no trouble separating the halves of the switch housing, but any number of factors can make that difficult on 20-plus year old parts. I've done cam seals, but don't recall if I've done videos on those for the Volvo.

-> MercedesDieselGuy if you you want to see my 'miracle fix' for an s70 cam seal, go to this video and see my comment: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYG0omaEiJ5oiqc&feature=emb_logo it's a real lazy cob job, but still works 5 months later. i did get an easier way to separate switch halves using plastic 'shims' using cut up clear plastic food containers, like for spinach. by sliding these down in between and blocking the clips on one side, once the clips are separated, i can do the other side without the previous side 're-clipping', -which is frustrating! been doing all the rest of switches the same way, [where i developed this], but still can't get them all working. something else, i guess... thanks, though. i did get driver's switch working much better anyway, with this, your shared method.

I need to replace one the rear-left switch. I broke it when I was trying to pry it out and free it from the sticky stuff. How easy is it to pop it out from underneath once the unit is disassembled? Thanks!
@MercedesDieselGuy2 жыл бұрын
When you say "the unit," I assume you mean the door panel. If so, then yes, very easy to pop it out from the bottom once the door panel is off.

@@MercedesDieselGuy With unit I meant the switch assembly. I need to replace one single switch. Thank you!
@MercedesDieselGuy2 жыл бұрын
@@diegaulle9143 oh, you want to replace a single switch in the whole four-switch assembly? I don't know if that's possible.

Nice video. Are you able to change the bulbs in the switches?

I didn't make an attempt. This was about getting the switches working.
